Spring fever

Okay so according to my weather app it’s only 20 degrees outside, but the sun is shining and I’m seeing patches of ground, the snow is melting. Yay!! 😀

And I’ve started doing spring cleaning, first was my office, my intern is impressed, I’ve thrown/shredded old papers I no longer need. Put up all the winter stuff-decorations, and I sanitized/dusted my desk. It’s neat, and clean. Organized too. lol 😉

I’ve put the spring banner on the blog, and I’m just all ready for the Spring weather. Soon… very soon…

Flag Day in Mexico
February 24, 2014 in Mexico

Flag Day in Mexico takes place on February 24, 2014. Día de la Bandera (“Flag Day”) is a national holiday in Mexico. It was established by the President of Mexico, General Lázaro Cárdenas, before the monument to General Vicente Guerrero, first to pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag on March 12, 1821.

The date was selected because more than a century earlier (February 24, 1821), the “Plan of Iguala” or “Plan of the three guarantees” was proclaimed. This plan was based in three principles: “Religion, Independence and Unity”, which were represented on the flag’s colors. On this same date, Jose Magdaleno Ocampo tailored the first three color flag for what would soon be an independent Mexico. This flag, commonly known as the “Pendon Trigarante”, had the colors: white, green and red in that order, arranged diagonally with three eight-point gold stars, one on the center of each color banner.

When the Pledge is recited, it is customary to salute the flag with the raised arm Bellamy Salute while speaking. When the flag is being paraded, the arm is held across the chest, palm parallel to the ground.

Dragobete 2014
February 24, 2014 in Romania

Dragobete is observed on February 24, 2014. Dragobete is a traditional Romanian holiday originating from Dacian times. Specifically, Dragobete was the son of Baba Dochia, which stands for the main character in the pagan myth related to spring arrival and the end of the harsh winter.

Ever since ancient times, Romanians used to celebrate Dragobete on the 24th of February. It was a sort of Valentine’s Day. This is the time when nature wakes up from her sleep, birds look for places to build their nests, and people, especially the youth, follow nature’s course.
