Help me, help you.

I’ve been seeing a trend… and I just have to get this out of my brain and off my chest. It really can benefit some people, so pass this on. I’m not being mean, indifferent or just bitchy… I’m saying this to be helpful to those that have had a bad therapeutic experience.

Help me, help you;

Be honest, trying to paint a pretty picture does not help me figure out what is the best treatment options for you. Neither does coming in and demanding to see a doctor NOW! That is not going to happen, in any health care setting. Sorry, but that is the truth!

Be honest with your answers, if you really don’t know, say so. Don’t shrug your shoulders and say, “Guess!” That’s not a way for me to help you either. Be honest with what you see your problem as, why were you referred here or what brought you in? Something had to…so discuss it. Therapy works if you work it. Being honest and talking about what you see as your issues really does help. 100% of therapists are not mindreaders. I have a good guesstimation ratio, but even then…it can be wrong.

This is geared at no one person, it’s a trend I’ve been seeing over the past couple of years, people come in for an evaluation and shrug their shoulders, or tell me to “guess” what their problem is. Um…that’s really not helpful! 😦  Or I have some that are truth impaired, or flat out lying through their teeth. I’m not the bad guy here. If you are referred for something that you don’t like/ want, well… I’m sorry. But the criteria has been met and that is the best treatment option for you. You have a right to decline services. But you also have to answer to the authority that referred you for services. Most people don’t understand that one. They think it’s either a money thing, or that I enjoy “making my life hell!” Not really. That’s not why I’m here. I like helping people. And I understand why some lie. But I’ve got a pretty good detector for manure. 😀

Overall, therapy is good for people, trust me, I do know what I’m talking about. However…don’t let someone assume what is wrong… there is a big chance that you will not benefit from therapy if you do that. Just as you talk to your family doctor, speak to the therapist that is doing your evaluation. I guarantee you will have a much better therapeutic experience. As you will be placed in the treatment that benefits you the most!! 😀

General Events:
International Day for South-South Cooperation
September 12, 2014 in the World
Originally observed on December 19, the date for the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation was moved to September 12 in 2011. It commemorates the date when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a plan of action in 1978 to promote and implement technical cooperation among developing countries.
The United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation aims to raise people’s awareness of the UN’s efforts to work on technical cooperation among developing countries. It also celebrates the economic, social and political developments made in recent years by regions and countries in the south. It is a time for individuals and organizations to agree on the importance of South-South cooperation, in complementing North-South cooperation, to support low-income countries in achieving development goals.
On this day political leaders from different countries reaffirm their goals in working with UN leaders to reinforce or strengthen ties on their commitment to South-South cooperation in developing countries. This can be done through speeches, action plans, special seminars or conferences, or press announcements. Educators in the area of social or political sciences may highlight the day through classroom activities that bring forth an awareness of issues centered on the event.

National Day of Encouragement takes place on September 12, 2014. The National Day of Encouragement in the United States was announced in 2007 and occurs each year. Bush also signed a message making September 12 the official “National Day of Encouragement.” The Encouragement Foundation is making plans to get more states involved in the National Day of Encouragement in the future.
“The National Day of Encouragement is about inspiring Americans to make deliberate words and acts of encouragement a part of this day first, and then a part of every day of their lives,” Andrew Baker, organizer of the National Day of Encouragement and executive director of the Encouragement Foundation.

National Banana Lovers Day
September 12, 2014 in the USA
It’s Banana Lovers Day! Today we celebrate one of the most popular fruits in the world. Did you know that the average person eats about 33 pounds of bananas a year? That’s approximately 100 individual bananas per person!
Bananas are high in fiber and potassium. These properties can help prevent calcium loss, ulcers, high blood pressure, and certain kinds of cancer. Although bananas are often pictured as growing on trees, the banana “tree” is actually an herb. The banana is the fruit of this herb.
To celebrate Banana Lovers Day, grab a bunch of bananas to share with family and friends. Fry them, grill them, add them to a s’more, or just enjoy them plain. Have fun!
–Bananas don’t grow on trees. (Trees have bark and the banana plant doesn’t have bark.) The banana plant is actually the world’s largest herb and closely related to vanilla and ginger.
