Mental Illness Awareness Week
October 5-11, 2014 in the USA
Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) (also known as Mental Health Awareness Week) was established in 1990 by the U.S. Congress in recognition of efforts by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to educate and increase awareness about mental illness. It takes place every year during the first full week of October. During this week, mental health advocates and organizations across the U.S. join together to sponsor a variety of events to promote community outreach and public education concerning mental illnesses such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older – about one in four adults – suffer from a diagnosable mental illness in any given year. However, stigma surrounding mental illness is a major barrier that prevents people from seeking the mental health treatment that they need. Programs during Mental Illness Awareness Week are designed to create community awareness and discussion in an effort to put an end to stigma and advocate for treatment and recovery.

A teacher or schoolteacher is a person who provides education for pupils (children) and students (adults). In many countries, a person who wishes to become a teacher must first obtain specified professional qualifications or credentials from a university or college. Education in its broadest, general sense is the means through which the aims and habits of a group of people lives on from one generation to the next.

National Do Something Nice Day
October 5, 2014 in the USA
Each year on October 5 people across the nation celebrate National Do Something Nice Day.
National Do Something Nice Day is very similar to National Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is celebrated on February 17.
It would be ideal if everyone lived their lives doing something nice, or doing nice things, on a daily basis and without thinking about it. Today serves as a reminder to us all, as it is easy to get caught up with hectic schedules and fast paced lifestyles, to stop for a moment and do something nice.
The “something” can be “anything” from buying a cup of coffee for someone in line at the coffee shop or giving a compliment to the tired clerk to sending flowers with a card that says “just because,” asking the neighbors over for a barbecue in your backyard, or mowing their lawn for them and etc.
