World Mental Health Day
October 10, 2014 in the World
World Mental Health Day takes place on October 10, 2014. World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
This day, each October thousands of supporters come to celebrate this annual awareness program to bring attention to Mental Illness and its major effects on peoples’ life worldwide. In some countries this day is part of the larger Mental Illness Awareness Week.
Mental health describes a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental disorder. From the perspective of ‘positive psychology’ or ‘holism’, mental health may include an individual’s ability to enjoy life, and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. Mental health can also be defined as an expression of emotions, and as signifying a successful adaptation to a range of demands.

World Homeless Day
October 10, 2014 in the World
World Homeless Day was born out of discussions between aid workers around the world, all of whom were helping the homeless in their own countries. The aim and slogan of the Day is ‘locals act locally on a global day’. The emphasis is on giving hands-on aid that is sensitive to local needs, while being aware of the global problem of homelessness and feeling solidarity with other charity workers around the world.
On this day, you can celebrate by helping to raise awareness for the homeless in your own community. Grassroots campaigns and fundraisers work at the local level, while taking advantage of the increased publicity and solidarity a global platform provides.
Use this Day as an opportunity to educate people about the homeless in your area, the infrastructure that already exists to help them and how it can be improved. World Homeless Day fundraisers and celebrations can be converted into gains which will help the homeless long after the Day is over.

World Egg Day 2014
October 10, 2014 in the World
World Egg Day is celebrated on October 10, 2014. It is celebrated each year on the second Friday in October. World Egg Day is a unique opportunity to help raise awareness of the benefits of eggs. It was introduced by the International Egg Commission in 1996. The main objective of this day of action is to boost the consumption of eggs.
Chicken eggs are widely used in many types of dishes, both sweet and savory, including many baked goods. Some of the most common preparation methods include scrambled, fried, hard-boiled, soft-boiled, omelettes and pickled. They can also be eaten raw, though this is not recommended for people who may be especially susceptible to salmonellosis.
Eggs add protein to a person’s diet, as well as various other nutrients. As an ingredient, egg yolks are an important emulsifier in the kitchen, and are also used as a thickener in custards. The albumen, or egg white, contains protein, but little or no fat, and can be used in cooking separately from the yolk.

Angel Food Cake Day
October 10, 2014 in the USA
The delicious, light and fluffy angel food cake is the center of attention on National Angel Food Cake Day which is celebrated each year on October 10.
Originating in the United States and first becoming popular in the late 19th century, angel food cake was so named because of its airy lightness. It was said to be the “food of the angels”.
Making angel food cake requires whipping egg whites until they are stiff then adding cream of tartar to the mixture to stabilize the egg whites. Additional ingredients are then folded into the egg white mixture.
The cake is then usually baked in an un-greased tube pan leaving a hole in the middle of the cake. The center tube allows the cake batter to rise higher as it clings to all sides of the pan. After baking, the pan is then inverted while cooling to prevent the cake from falling in on itself.
Usually rather than frosting, angel food cakes are often topped with a glaze or a sweet fruit sauce and a swirl of whipped cream.
