Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
November 19, 2014 in the World
Female entrepreneurship takes center-stage this November as Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) launches on November 19, 2014, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The day is an opportunity to celebrate, engage and empower female entrepreneurs as part of the larger global entrepreneurship celebration.
In many countries around the world, women remain an untapped economic potential. According to the International Labor Organization, there are 812 million women living in developing countries who could contribute more fully to their economies. Furthermore, a direct correlation has been found between the policies in place to support women, the opportunities available to women and women’s success in business.
In developing nations, empowering women to be entrepreneurial helps reduce poverty for women, their families and their communities. And yet, the recently released Gender GEDI (Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index) found that in nearly three quarters of the 30 countries surveyed, conditions for female entrepreneurship and business growth were unfavorable.
As such, many GEW campaigns are making promoting female entrepreneurship a priority now more than ever. WED focuses the entrepreneurial community’s attention on female development and empowerment to help strengthen the ecosystem as a whole.

International Men’s Day
November 19, 2014 in the World
International Men’s Day takes place on November 19, 2014. International Men’s Day (IMD) is an annual international event which is celebrated in over 60 countries. Inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, the day and its events find support from a variety of individuals and groups in Australia, the Caribbean, North America, Asia, Europe and Africa.
The objectives of celebrating an International Men’s Day include focusing on men’s and boys’ health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values. According to its creators, International Men’s Day is a time to promote positive aspects of male identity based on the premise that ‘males of all ages respond more energetically to positive role models than they do to negative gender stereotyping’.
During past years the method of commemorating International Men’s Day included public seminars, classroom activities at schools, radio and television programs, peaceful displays and marches, debates, panel discussions, award ceremonies, and art displays. The manner of observing this annual day is optional, and any appropriate forums can be used.

World Toilet Day
November 19, 2014 in the World
World Toilet Day takes place on November 19, 2014. This international day of action aims to break the taboo around toilets and draw attention to the global sanitation challenge. 2.5 billion people do not have access to a clean and safe toilet.
In 2001, the World Toilet Organization declared its founding day, 19 November, as World Toilet Day. Since then, 19 November has been observed globally by its member organizations. The World Toilet Organization is a global non-profit organization committed to improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. WTO focuses on toilets instead of water, which receives more attention and resources under the common subject of sanitation.
A toilet is a sanitation fixture used primarily for the disposal of human excrement and urine, often found in a small room referred to as a toilet/bathroom/lavatory. Diseases, including cholera which still affects some 3 million people each year, can be largely prevented when effective sanitation and water treatment prevents fecal matter from contaminating waterways, groundwater and drinking water supplies. Infected water supplies can be treated to make the water safe for consumption and use.
According to The Global Water Supply and Sanitation Assessment 2000 by the World Health Organization, 40% of the global population does not have access to “good” “excreta disposal facilities”—they live mostly in Asia and Africa. There are efforts being made to design simple effective squat toilets for these people.

Rocky and Bullwinkle Day
November 19, 2014 in the USA
On November 19, 1959, Rocky and Bullwinkle saved the world for the first time. The show was witty, but outrageously poorly animated, yet it ran for six years and eventually became a cult classic, inspiring all sorts of spin-offs. Between Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris and Natasha, Dudley Do-Right, and Snively Whiplash, right always wins, until next week’s cliffhanger is set up.
One favorite was always the Fractured Fairy Tales, but the puns are just great everywhere. I think we’ve all attended Bullwinkle’s alma mater, Wossamatta U.
Bullwinkle: I’d like to apply for a job as an usher?
Boris: What experience have you had?
Bullwinkle: I’ve been in the dark for most of my life.
