Take your Action Figure to Work Day!

From the brain of my friend, Randy! 😀

Let’s take our action figure to work day! I ❤ this!!!! and I’ll finally have an excuse for doing so! lol 😉

so how did this come to pass? Let’s read it in his words, as he is the one that came up with it. From his site and email to me:

In February of 2014, I was getting ready for work one morning, and noticed my Variant New Teen Titans White Raven on the shelf. I picked her up, took a picture of her next to my coffee cup and posted it on Instagram with the caption, ‘White Raven senses I need more coffee.’ That gave me the idea to take her to work with me and photograph her doing various things in my office. By that evening, I had gotten such a positive response from all my friends that I decided to do it again. This time, however, I would see how many people would do the same thing, all on the same day. With only 3 days to plan and get  the word out, I proclaimed March 7, 2014, the first annual Take Your Action Figure To Work Day. I created a Facebook event and shared it with everyone I knew. The next day, I saw an brief mention of this on a newspaper website from Detroit. Figures Toy Company was the first business to get behind it with posts on their Facebook and Instagram. NECA Entertainment, Hastings Entertainment, Free Comic Book Day and several other quickly followed suit.
By the evening of March 6th, I was already seeing the hashtag being used in Singapore and Thailand. People were emailing me with questions about what constituted an ‘Action Figure,’ (Yes, Barbie dolls count), and what hashtag they were supposed to use.
On March 7th, the newest Geek Holiday was born as hundreds of people tweeted thousands of pictures all day. The Hulk smashed a water cooler, Jawas delivered soda cans, and Wonder Woman became a librarian, while the Cheetah tried to thwart her first day on the job.  By day’s end, over 700,000 people saw at least one tweet about Action Figure Work Day, and I started getting follow up emails about when to do it next year. I am so excited that so many people latched on to this little idea, and I thank you for visiting this site. Let’s make Action Figure Work Day 2015 the geekiest holiday of the year!

How To Participate
Do you have an action figure? Do you have a camera? Do you have a social media account? If the answer is yes, than you have all you need to participate! Take your action figure to work on the first Friday in March and post pictures of him/her/it with you, with your coworkers, with a client or with your boss (well, maybe not your boss). Get creative! Who doesn’t want to see Wolverine pulling double duty as a paper shredder? In 2014 some people even story boarded a day in the life of their action figure, for the time they woke up, to the end of the day. Even Cheetah and Wonder Woman put aside their differences at the end of the day to go camping together.
You’re only limited by your own creativity. Post away! Be sure you include the Official #AFWD2015 so we can all see the amazing things you do to make this as nerdy as possible.

Official Hashtag to use: #AFWD2015

So there you have it!! 😀 Awesome right? Just another way to be a proud nerd and have fun!! And oh yes! I will be participating, and not only posting on facebook and twitter. But I’ll also be posting on Happier, here duh! and a few other social sites I belong too. Cause let’s face it, we all need some silly fun! Plus this one, is waaaay cool too!

Decisions, decisions? Which Wonder Woman action figure do I use that day? 😉

Are you like me?

Don’t like to go out in large crowds, would rather stay home, warm and cozy. Avoid all the people that have overindulged, drivers that didn’t listen to “the get a designated driver.”  Yeah!

I prefer to stay in, have a movie marathon, drink something nice and warm, and just enjoy the evening with Hubs!  Okay the last part might be a bit difficult, he has to work late tonight. 😦 But it is what it is.

So for those others like me and that don’t drink-alcohol. Me; because I’m diabetic and ohmygoodness do you know how much sugar is in alcohol? YEAH!

Check out this site for some awesome non-alcoholic drink recipes for tonight or any night, really.

And what about the food? Hey! This site is awesome, drinks, appetizers, brunches, etc. I like them.

Now this would make the evening nerdtastic!! Especially since I plan on having a Marvel movie marathon!

lol 😀

1 cup (250 mL) packed brown sugar
1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
1/2 tsp (2 mL) baking soda
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
1/2 cup (125 mL) unsalted butter, softened
Chocolate Icing:
3/4 cup (175 mL) butter, softened
1/4 cup (50 mL) whipping cream
1/2 tsp (2 mL) maple or vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups (375 mL) icing sugar
1 oz (30 g) unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
Decorations:
24 candy-sprinkled dark chocolates (such as Pearls)
24 coloured quins or other small candy
12 chocolate-covered cashews
24 blanched sliced almonds
12 small milk chocolate–covered digestive biscuits
Preparation:
1. In small bowl, whisk cocoa with 3/4 cup (175 mL) boiling water; let cool.
In separate bowl, whisk together eggs, half of the cooled cocoa mixture and vanilla; set aside.
In large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. On low speed, beat in butter and remaining cocoa mixture until combined. Increase speed to medium; beat for 1 minute. Gradually beat in egg mixture, scraping side of bowl as necessary. Divide among 12 large paper-lined muffin cups, smoothing tops.
2. Bake in centre of 350°F (180°C) oven until cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes. Remove from pans; let cool completely on racks. (Make-ahead: Wrap individually in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Or overwrap in heavy-duty foil and freeze for up to 2 weeks.)
3. Chocolate Icing: In bowl, beat butter until fluffy; gradually beat in cream. Beat in maple extract. Beat in sugar, 1/2 cup (125 mL) at a time. Beat in chocolate until fluffy. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days; beat before using.) Spoon 1/3 cup (75 mL) of the icing into piping bag fitted with small plain tip; set aside for decorating face.
4. Cut tops off each cupcake level with top of paper liner; cut one-third off each top, reserving large piece.
Spread rounded 2 tbsp (25 mL) of the remaining icing over each cupcake and reserved large piece. Stand cut edge of piece on edge of cupcake for face, supporting piece with small dollop of icing.
5. Decorations: Press 2 candy-sprinkled dark chocolates on face for eyes. Using reserved icing, pipe dot on each chocolate; press on quins for pupils.
With serrated knife, halve 1 cashew lengthwise; press half below eyes with curve facing up for nose. Cut remaining cashew half in half crosswise; press above eyes for ears.
With offset spatula, smooth icing at cheeks. Starting at nose, pipe reserved icing in swoop along each edge of cupcake for jowls.
Press almonds into icing below nose for teeth.
6. Using 2-1/2-inch (6 cm) plain teardrop cutter, cut out tail from each biscuit. Pipe line of icing around edge of tail; pipe diamond pattern in centre. Press onto cupcake behind face.

2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,300 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

I Love ❤ these year end reports! Thank you word press monkeys! You’re awesome!!

Marsala; Pantone’s Color of the year

and the reviews are mixed this year. 😉

Personally I like it! I’ve heard it’s considered an Earth tone, and I love the warmth of it. With just a touch of red to spice it up.

As seen in clothes, shoes and accessories. While I don’t see me wearing this in all year round, I can see accent pieces.

The fun however starts in the makeup! well IMO! 😀

And so far, Sephora seems to be the only one that appears to have the idea of getting this color out and about.

I did find this image:

marsaladrugstore2

And it all appears to be Maybelline! 😉 One of my goto choices for less expensive make up.

Want to add some Marsala in your home, a few other images I’ve found. I think if you have a neutral palette already, then adding in some accent pillows, throws, what have you would be beautiful.

I like these next set of photos:

Oriental_Weavers_thumb

I love this accent wall! 😀

red-white-living-room-wall-decal-665x376

LOL and I do have the color of the year and use it on a daily basis.

Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb-okay, I think it looks like Marsala. 😉

unnamedThe photo does not do it justice. The color really is darker. 😉

New Year’s resolutions

Do you have your’s yet?

A New Year’s resolution is a secular tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people beginning from New Year’s Day.

And where did these come from? one of my fave sources to jump off from wikipedia

Make a list and check it twice. 😉

xxxxxx-food-hangover

My resolution in 2000 was to stop making resolutions, and dang if I haven’t done well with that one. No more failure, no more stress. However… I did start blogging and writing more. I was also in school and acquiring one new thing or more a day. For me, I was already improving myself. And now… yeah, I don’t like the stress. see the giggle next! 😀

I do however have another resolution that I’ve also kept on doing since 2000. 😉

So what about you? Do you do resolutions? And if so are you prepared to keep doing them for the full year?

let me know, I’m curious! 😀
