Youth Day in Cameroon
February 11, 2015 in Cameroon
This national holiday in the west African nation of Cameroon celebrates the country’s young people. School children and youth groups participate in parades, often accompanied by university students in marching bands. Government officials watch the processions, along with many other onlookers. Businesses sell food and merchandise along the parade routes. Many schools and youth groups also organize art exhibits and sports activities.
The theme of Youth Day is to encourage Cameroon’s young people to renounce violence and other unsavory behaviors and to embrace education, sports, and artistic activities. The country’s president traditionally makes a nationally broadcast speech on Youth Day, commenting on the achievements of the country’s young people and outlining the government’s plans to improve education and youth employment opportunities.

European 112 Day
February 11, 2015 in Europe
European 112 Day is celebrated on February 11, 2015. 112 is the common emergency telephone number that can be dialed free of charge from any fixed or mobile telephone in order to reach emergency services (ambulance, fire and rescue, police) in numerous European countries, including all member countries of the European Union, as well as several other countries in the world. Since 2009, 11 February is the European 112 Day. At this occasion, events take place to promote the existence and the appropriate use of the EU emergency number.
In some cases calls to emergency numbers can be made when other calls cannot, e.g., when a telephone has been barred from making outgoing calls for non-payment of bills. 112 is managed and financed in the European Union by each Member State (country) which also decide on the organisation of the emergency call centres. The number is also adopted in the candidates for EU accession and members of the EEA agreement.
80 countries of the world use the 112 number for emergencies, e.g. Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Vatican City and Zimbabwe.

Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day
February 11, 2015 in the World
This day serves as a reminder that we don’t need to stress over all the little mistakes in our past. Leave your worries behind, and greet the new day with optimism and a positive outlook!
The saying “don’t cry over spilled milk” is an age-old proverb that has been around for hundreds of years. The first historical reference to the phrase appears in a document written by British historian James Howell in 1659. The saying most likely comes from European folklore. According to the old tales, fairies were particularly fond of milk and would drink up any spills left behind.
To celebrate Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day, let bygones be bygones. Don’t worry about the little things that are in the past, and instead focus on the wonderful things that are headed your way!

National Inventors’ Day
February 11, 2015 in the USA
Inventors’ Day is observed on February 11, 2015. Inventors’ Day is a day of the year set aside by a country to recognise the contributions of inventors. Ronald Reagan as President of the United States proclaimed February 11, 1983 as National Inventors’ Day in the USA. In recognition of the enormous contribution inventors make to the nation and the world, the Congress has designated February 11, the anniversary of the birth of the inventor Thomas Alva Edison, who held over 1,000 patents, as National Inventors’ Day.
An inventor is a person who makes inventions. An invention is a unique or novel device, method, composition or process. It may be an improvement upon a machine or product, or a new process for creating an object or a result. An invention that achieves a completely unique function or result may be a radical breakthrough. Such works are novel and not obvious to others skilled in the same field. Some inventions can be patented.

National  Peppermint Patty Day
February 11, 2015 in the USA
A peppermint patty is a tasty confection made with a rich, creamy peppermint filling covered in semisweet chocolate. The York Cone Company, which was based in Pennsylvania and originally produced ice cream cones, invented the York Peppermint Pattie in 1940. Unlike the existing chocolate-covered peppermint candies, York’s product was firm and crisp. It soon became the premier candy of its kind.
Peppermint patties also gained notoriety after the debut of Peanuts, Charles M. Schultz’s famous comic strip, in 1966. One of the main characters was Patricia “Peppermint Patty” Reichardt.
To celebrate Peppermint Patty Day, enjoy a minty and refreshing dark chocolate patty!
