Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
February 21, 2015 in the USA

Engineering is typically a male-dominated arena – but beyond simply tinkering with and repairing equipment, engineering requires a flare for creativity and intelligence which the industry often misses out on due to so few women considering the career path.

Started in 2001 as a joint effort between NSPE, IBM, and National Engineers Week Foundation, “Girl Day” 2015 marks the 14th year of a special focus whereby women engineers, and their male colleagues, have the opportunity to introduce more than one million girls and young women to engineering. More than just one day, Introduce a Girl to Engineering is a national movement that shows girls how creative and collaborative engineering is and how engineers are changing our world.

Card Reading Day
February 21, 2015 in the World

Card Reading Day is celebrated on February 21, 2015. The day is a chance for sentimental people to get their saved cards out for reading them. A greeting card is an illustrated, folded card featuring an expression of friendship or other sentiment.

Although greeting cards are usually given on special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas or other holidays, they are also sent to convey thanks or express other feeling. Postcards, which are single-sided without the fold, can function in a manner somewhat similar to greeting cards.

Greeting cards, usually packaged with an envelope, come in a variety of styles. There are both mass-produced as well as handmade versions that are distributed by hundreds of companies large and small.

National Sticky Bun Day
February 21, 2015 in the USA

Sticky buns, also known as cinnamon rolls, are a delicious breakfast pastry made with leavened dough. Traditional recipes call for a glazed topping with pecans, maple syrup or honey, cinnamon, and butter.

The first people to add honey and nuts to their bread were the Ancient Egyptians. Glazed pastries have been popular ever since! German settlers in Pennsylvania created our modern-day sticky buns. The pastries were originally called “Schnecken” and are still considered a Philadelphia specialty.

Celebrate National Sticky Bun Day by baking some fresh sticky buns to share with friends and family!
