News from BBB serving Northern Indiana

This is an alert from the BBB of Northern Indiana, check your state. I’m sure it’s not just targeted here. Be careful!

Calls from 9-11

[Fort Wayne, IN – March 3, 2015] – Threatening calls are being received by a male voice stating that he is with the Police Department and “That if you do not call within six hours, you will be turned over to the Attorney General and arrested for misuse of your Social Security Number, and that you will spend six months in jail.”  The caller then asks call recipients to phone 850-725-6952.  What is concerning as well is that the caller ID shows “911.”

The caller ID showing 911 is an example of call spoofing, wherein a service is purchased that disguises a phone number that the caller is actually calling from.  If you receive one of these deceptive calls, make a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.  You can read more on their website for important FAQs regarding call spoofing fraud.  Alert the BBB to these calls as well so we can make the public aware that this is going on by calling 260.423.4433.

International Scrapbooking Day
March 4, 2015 in the World
International Scrapbooking Day takes place on March 04, 2015. Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of a scrapbook. Typical memorabilia include photographs, printed media, and artwork. Scrapbook albums are often decorated and frequently contain extensive journaling.
Celebrated all over the world, International Scrapbooking Industry Day is the day when lovers of memories, paper, photos and glue come together to celebrate this immensely popular hobby.
Scrapbooking is all about preserving memories whether they’re in paper, photo or letter format, or even items such as pressed flowers from your first date, ribbons from chocolates on Valentine’s Day or even an airline ticket from your first holiday wth the girls, guys or without your parents, or even with the kids. All that’s needed is some glue, a decorated book or album, and some time to sit down and start sticking! Some towns and cities even have their own Scrapbooking Clubs where like-minded people meet to chat, scrap, and hold fairs where you can choose your next scrapbook design, see the latest trends in scrapbooking, and try new products.
The advent of scanners, desktop publishing, page layout programs, and advanced printing options make it relatively easy to create professional-looking layouts in digital form. The internet allows scrapbookers to self-publish their work. Scrapbooks that exist completely in digital image form are referred to as “digital scrapbooks” or “computer scrapbooks.”

Saint Casimir’s Day
March 4, 2015 in Lithuania
Saint Casimir’s Day is observed on March 04, 2015. It is the anniversary of the death of Saint Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania and Poland. St. Casimir is the patron saint of many Roman Catholic Churches in the United States which were established by Polish or Lithuanian immigrants.
St. Casimir’s Day in many Roman Catholic parishes is marked with a special Mass said in his honor. His feast day, March 4, is commemorated optionally according to the Liturgical Calendar of the United States Conference of Bishops. It is, however, kept with great reverence in Roman Catholic parishes of ethnic Polish or Lithuanian origin
Surviving contemporary accounts described Prince Casimir as a young man of exceptional intellect and education, humility and politeness, striving for justice and fairness. Early sources do not attest to his piousness or devotion to god, but his inclination to religious life increased towards the end of his life.
