General Events:
Alexander Graham Bell Day
March 7, 2015 in Nova Scotia, Canada
Alexander Graham Bell Day was established in 2005 by a legislative Act of 2005, issued in Canadian province Nova Scotia. The day of the celebration coincides with the day, when Bell received the patent for his invention of the first telephone in 1879. The inventions of Alexander Graham Bell are worth to be honored. He developed Visible Speech, that allowed deaf people learn speaking, but his most notable invention was telephone.
Alexander Bell was very interested in the possibility of transmitting speech over wires. Invention of telegraph by Samuel Morse made the instantaneous communication between two distant points almost possible, but it was limited to the number of messages, that could be transmitted, and required a hand-delivery of message. Bell improved telegraph in a device, in which he combined the aspects of telegraph and record player. This allowed everyone to speak and hear each other from a distance.
Working telephone was successfully tested for the first time on March 10, 1876, three days after obtaining a patent. Bell spoke the famous sentence to his assistant Thomas Watson ” Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you”.

National Sockmonkey Day
March 7, 2015 in the USA
A sock monkey is a toy made from socks fashioned in the likeness of a monkey. These stuffed animals are a mixture of folk art and kitsch in the culture of the United States and the culture of Canada.
The beloved sock monkey is easily recognizable, cute, silly, and soft, but where did it originate? According to Bonnie Krauss Connelly’s book, Everything’s Coming up Sock Monkeys!: Art, History and Business of the American Sock Monkey, the classic toy’s beginnings can be traced back to Rockford, Illinois, where Swedish immigrant John Nelson settled in 1852:

National Crown Roast of Pork Day
March 7, 2015 in the USA
March 7th celebrates National Crown Roast of Pork Day, an “unofficial” National holiday. It would be the day to set a nice table and prepare a feast with a crown roast of pork.
To make a crown roast of pork, a pork loin is formed into a circle with the ribs pointing upwards forming the peaks of a crown. Often they are held together with twine. It is then seasoned and often times stuffed, roasted and served, making a beautiful centerpiece on the table. The ends of the bones may be given a paper-frill treatment for added decoration.
If you have never made a crown roast of pork, there are many different recipes for you to choose from. Have fun looking through them and enjoy National Crown Roast of Pork Day!
