From 1890 to 2013, the day was known as Koninginnedag or Queen’s Day. The holiday was first observed on 31 August 1885 as Prinsessedag or Princess’s Day, the fifth birthday anniversary of Princess Wilhelmina, heiress to the Dutch throne. On her accession, the holiday acquired the name, Koninginnedag.

Woody Woodpecker Day

Mel Blanc was the original voice of Woody, followed by Ben Hardaway, and finally by Grace Stafford. “The Woody Woodpecker Show” was first broadcast on television in 1957 and has appeared alongside other famous cartoon characters, most notably in the 1988 film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” Woody has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
