National Day of Paraguay
May 14, 2015 in Paraguay
May 14 is the National Day of Paraguay which commemorates the bloodless revolution led by Jose Gaspar Rodriguez de Francia, which led to Paraguay’s independence from Spain in 1811. The National Day is a public holiday which is celebrated for two days. Parades, fireworks, and concerts are holiday events with most people wearing traditional clothes during this occasion.
Paraguay is known as the “Heart of America” because of its central location in South America. The country is one of the two landlocked countries in the Western Hemisphere, the other being Bolivia. It lies on the banks of the Paraguay River and is bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest.

National Underground America Day
May 14, 2015 in the USA
May 14th is Underground America Day, a time to honor the 6,000 or so North Americans who make their homes not only on the Earth but in it.
National Underground America Day, an “unofficial” National holiday was created by architect Malcolm Wells in 1974.  Wells (1926 – 2009) is considered“the father of modern earth-sheltered architecture”.  Wells who was also a writer, illustrator, draftsman, lecturer, cartoonist, columnist, and solar consultant, practiced what he preached by living in a modern earth-sheltered building of his own design.   He took up the challenge of underground architecture as he believed the Earth’s surface was “made for living plants, not industrial plants”.
“On May 14th each year hundreds of millions of people all across this great land will do absolutely nothing about the national holiday I declared in 1974, and that’s just the way it should be. It’s a holiday free of holiday obligations.”
