General Events:
World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
May 21, 2015 in the World
World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is observed on May 21, 2015. The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is a United Nations-sanctioned international holiday for the promotion of diversity issues. Diversity Day is an opportunity to help communities understand the value of cultural diversity and learn how to live together in harmony. It was adopted in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed this holiday due to UNESCO’s Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in November 2001. It was proclaimed by UN Resolution 57/249.
The many separate societies that emerged around the globe differed markedly from each other, and many of these differences persist to this day. As well as the more obvious cultural differences that exist between people, such as language, dress and traditions, there are also significant variations in the way societies organize themselves, in their shared conception of morality, and in the ways they interact with their environment. Cultural diversity can be seen as analogous to biodiversity.

End of the World or Rapture Party Day
May 21, 2015 in the World
In 2001, Christian radio host and then-president of the Family Radio Christian network, Harold Camping, announced that he had calculated the exact dates on which both the Rapture and Judgement Day would take place: May 11th and October 11th, respectively.
The Rapture may not have seemed like a joking matter or much of a reason to have a party time for the people who believed it would happen back in 2011, that 200 million people all over the globe suddenly get sucked up into the sky without a word of warning, amid horrific earthquakes of unprecedented magnitude and relentless plagues–that’s kind of scary, isn’t it? Luckily, the predictions turned out to be completely false. But why let the opportunity to celebrate not having been annihilated go to waste? If the survival of the human race is not an occasion for celebration, what is? So what are you waiting for? Time to throw a Rapture Day Party!
However, most people, including most Christians, rejected these predictions from the get-go, saying the Christian radio host who made them had no way of knowing the exact dates of either the Rapture or Judgement Day. And when the Rapture failed to happen on May 21st, 2011, Camping’s predictions became something of a worldwide joke, as did Camping himself.

National Strawberries and Cream Day
May 21, 2015 in the USA
The simple combination of fresh sliced strawberries and homemade whipped cream has been a popular dish for centuries. In fact, in medieval England it was customary for newlyweds to enjoy strawberries and soured cream for their wedding breakfast.
The strawberry is the first fruit to ripen every spring and each refreshing bite contains high levels of Vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, and potassium. If you’re feeling experimental, there are many interesting variations on the classic strawberries and cream recipe. Try flavoring your whipped cream with amaretto liqueur or substituting a combination of fat-free sour cream and brown sugar instead. For a more elaborate dessert, put together a trifle with alternating layers of fruit, cream, and a sweet pastry such as ladyfinger cookies. For more ideas, check out these recipes for stuffed strawberries.
To celebrate National Strawberries and Cream Day, head to a local farm and pick your own fresh strawberries as a fun spring activity for the whole family. Then enjoy the fruits of your labor with a delicious snack of strawberries and cream at home!
