General Events:
World Naked Bike Ride (Bare As You Dare)
June 13, 2015 in the World
WNBR is on! It’s time to put a stop to the indecent exposure of people and the planet to cars and the pollution they create. This protest against oil dependency and the way the cult of the car dominates contemporary life is also an unfettered celebration of individuality of the human body.
The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike ride in which participants plan, meet and ride together en masse on human-powered transport (the vast majority on bicycles, but some on skateboards and inline skates), to “deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world.”
The dress code motto is “bare as you dare”. Full or partial nudity is encouraged, but not mandatory. There is no mandate to cover intimate parts; this is a distinguishing feature of the WNBR against other cycling events.
Creative expression is also encouraged to generate a fun and immersive atmosphere during the ride, capture the attention and imagination of the public and media, and make the experience more personalized and fulfilling for the riders. Body art, such as body painting, are common forms of creative expression, as well as costumes, art bikes, portable sound reinforcement systems (such as public address systems, bullhorns and boomboxes) and musical instruments or other types of noisemaker.

World Wide Knit in Public Day
June 13, 2015 in the World
World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes and takes place on the second Saturday of June each year. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company.
Knit in Public Day is unique, in that it’s the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers. They each organize an event because they want to, not because they have to. They bring their own fresh ideas into planning where the event should be held, and what people would like to do.
In the past some people have used this event as a means to show the general public that ‘not only grannies knit!’. Knit in Public Day is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on Knit in Public Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.
2005 there were about 25 local events around the world. In 2006 there were about 70 local events. 2007 there were almost 200. Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States, and Germany.

Sewing Machine Day
June 13, 2015 in the World
Sewing Machine Day is observed on June 13, 2015. A sewing machine is a machine used to stitch fabric and other materials together with thread. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies.
Since the invention of the first working sewing machine, generally considered to have been the work of Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, the sewing machine has greatly improved the efficiency and productivity of the clothing industry. Out of the inventions created during the industrial revolution, the invention of the sewing machine had one of the largest impacts on the United States.
The sewing machine’s effects on the clothing industry resulted in major changes for other industries as well. Cotton production needed to increase in order to match the demand of the new clothing factories. As a result cotton became planted in new areas where it hadn’t previously been farmed.

Queen’s Official Birthday
June 13, 2015 in the UK/Commonwealth
The sovereign’s birthday was first officially marked in the United Kingdom in 1748. Since then, the date of the king or queen’s birthday has been determined throughout the British Empire and later the Commonwealth according to either different royal proclamations issued by the sovereign or governor or by statute laws passed by the local parliament.
he Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on a Saturday in June.
Official celebrations to mark Sovereigns’ birthday have often been held on a day other than the actual birthday, particularly when the actual birthday has not been in the summer. King Edward VII, for example, was born on 9 November, but his official birthday was marked throughout his reign in May or June when there was a greater likelihood of good weather for the Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour.
The Queen usually spends her actual birthday privately, but the occasion is marked publicly by gun salutes in central London at midday: a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London.

National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day
June 13, 2015 in the USA
Each June 13 honors those who would like to cook and be in the kitchen but it just doesn’t seem to work well for them: it is National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day.
Klutz:  most commonly referred to as a clumsy person.
There are many people who have the intentions of Paula Dean, Julia Child, Rachael Ray, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay or one of the other wonderful chef’s, however their good intentions always seem to end up upside down.   We have all had our little “mishaps”:  spilled milk, broken glass, 1 tablespoon of salt instead of 1 teaspoon, baking soda instead of baking powder, burned cookies, underdone roast,  cut our finger, burned our hand and etc..  It is to the “Kitchen Klutz” that these things continue to happen time and time again.

It may be necessary to keep a medical emergency kit in the kitchen for these brave people who keep trying!
