General events:
International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
June 26, 2015 in the World
International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed on June 26, 2015. The United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is held annually to speak out against the crime of torture and to honour and support victims and survivors throughout the world.
The day was selected by the United Nations General Assembly for two reasons. First, on 26 June 1945, the United Nations Charter was signed – the first international instrument obliging UN members to respect and promote human rights. Second, 26 June 1987 was when the United Nations Convention Against Torture came into effect.

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
June 26, 2015 in the World
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking takes place on June 26, 2015. The day is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It has been held annually since 1988 on 26 June, a date chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu’s dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, just before the First Opium War in China. The observance was instituted by General Assembly Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987.
Drug abuse is a patterned use of a substance (drug) in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods neither approved nor advised by medical professionals. Substance abuse often includes problems with impulse control and impulsive behaviour. There are many cases in which criminal or antisocial behavior occur when the person is under the influence of a drug. Substance abuse is prevalent with an estimated 120 million users of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and other synthetic drugs.

Ratcatcher’s Day
June 26, 2015 in the World
Ratcatcher’s Day is observed on June 26, 2015. Ratcatcher’s Day is celebrated on 26 June or 22 July, commemorating the myth of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The town of Hamelin in Germany uses the June date. The confusion of dates is because the Brothers Grimm cite 26 June 1284 as the date the Pied Piper led the children out of the town, while the poem by Robert Browning gives it as 22 July 1376. It is a holiday remembering rat-catchers.

Beautician’s Day
June 26, 2015 in the World
Beautician’s Day takes place on June 26, 2015. Beautician’s Day is a day for all the hair stylists, cosmeticians and other people who care for beauty and handsomeness. As a beautician those people are always busy working in the background. Beautician’s Day is a great option to give away a little attention to your beautician and let them know how valuable his work really is.
Beautician’s Day celebrates the contributions of beauticians in our lives. Though there might not be clear-cut sources on the origins of this celebration, having professionals taking care of us in the appearance department is a most reassuring thought. Give them some well-deserved gratitude on this day.
Trivia:
-Beautifying oneself using cosmetics is real old, the ancient Egyptians were well-known for it. It was even mentioned in the Bible. Ancient Rome also has some cosmetic culture, but contemporary literature suggests it wasn’t well-liked.
-Wearing make-up were met with opposition throughout the ages. Usually there are only permitted for the performing arts. Queen Victoria of England issued a ban on it, and the State of Kansas made it a misdemeanor to use it under the age of 44 back in 1915! Obviously the law was repealed later.
-The suntan as something beautiful was the work of Coco Chanel back in the 1920s. Before than, a paler complexion was seen as more beautiful, as women of higher standing can avoid working outdoors all day long. This view of beauty is still prevalent in Asian cultures, evident by the multitude of the skin whitening products they have.
-One of the more obscure faces of the Beautician profession is that of the Desairologist. These beauticians work at funeral parlors, giving our deceased their one last great look for their moments before their burial.

National Forgiveness Day
June 26, 2015 in the USA
There’s no doubt that we all need Forgiveness Day, both to be forgiven and to forgive. Maybe that’s why there’s Forgiveness Day on June 26, Global Forgiveness Day on August 27, and International Forgiveness Day on the first Sunday in August.
Troubles and disputes should be ended on Forgiveness Day and people should get along with each other again. It would be a nice idea to call somebody, whom you have not spoken to in a while because you were too angry. Forgiving is a relieving process and not only on Forgiveness Day everyone should do that from time to time.
