National PTSD Awareness Day
June 27, 2015 in the USA
In order to bring greater awareness to the issue of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the United States Senate designated June 27th as National PTSD Awareness Day. In addition, June has been designated as PTSD Awareness Month by the National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD).
PTSD is a mental health problem that can occur after someone has been exposed to a single traumatic event or multiple traumatic events, such as sexual or physical assault, natural or man-made disaster, and war-related combat stress. Symptoms of PTSD include persistent intrusive thoughts and distressing dreams about the traumatic event, triggered emotional responses to reminders of the trauma, efforts to avoid thinking or talking about the trauma, and persistent hypervigilance for cues that  indicate additional danger or trauma re-occurring.

Mixed Race Day
June 27, 2015 in Brazil
Mixed Race Day is observed on June 27, 2015. Mixed Race Day is celebrated in Brazil as a reference to the twenty-seven mixed-race representatives elected during the 1st Conference for the Promotion of Racial Equality. It also refers to the month of June, in which caboclo activist Helda Castro was registered as the only mixed-race representative in the 1st National Conference for the Promotion of Racial Equality, which was held in Brasília (June 30 to July 2, 2005) and was sponsored by the Government of Brazil. Mixed Race Day honors all those who possess multi-ethnic origins. It occurs three days after the Day of the Caboclo, honoring the first mixed-race Brazilian group (people of European and Amerindian ancestry).

Seven Sleepers Day
June 27, 2015 in Germany
In Germany, June 27, 2015 is Siebenschläfertag (Seven Sleepers Day). The weather on that day is supposed to determine the average weather of the next seven weeks. This is one of the most well-know bits of traditional farmers’ weather lore remaining in today’s Germany, but quite inaccurate in practice.
While it might seem that the name of the day refers to the rodent known as Siebenschläfer in German (Glis Glis, “edible dormouse” in English), it actually commemorates the Seven Sleepers legend.
Objections have been raised that the weather lore associated with the day might have arisen before the Gregorian reform, and as at this time the difference to the Julian calendar amounted to ten days, July 7 would be the actual Seven Sleepers Day. Based on this date the prediction has a slightly increased probability, if confined to the southern parts of Germany not affected by the jet stream, where the rule seems to have originated.

Industrial Workers Of The World Day
June 27, 2015 in the World
With the modernisation of industry, a move from manufacturing to consumerism and a general shift in global market operations, industrial processes and businesses are much less common than they used to be. As such, it’s easy to overlook just how big a part industry still plays, and how many people are employed by industrial organisations working in industrial roles. Industrial Workers Of The World Day draws attention to these workers, and to their importance in producing the goods that we consume and rely on.

National HIV Testing Day
June 27, 2015 in the USA
National HIV Testing Day is a reminder to get the facts, get tested, and get involved to take care of yourself and your partners.
An estimated 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, and that number grows by almost 50,000 every year. One in eight people who have HIV don’t know it. That means they aren’t getting the medical care they need to stay healthy and avoid passing HIV to others.
CDC has found that more than 90 percent of new HIV infections in the United States could be prevented by testing and diagnosing people who have HIV and ensuring they receive prompt, ongoing care and treatment. Early linkage to and retention in HIV care is central to managing HIV and promoting health among all people living with HIV. HIV medicines can keep people with HIV healthy for many years, and greatly reduce the chance of transmitting HIV to their sex partners.
