General Events:
Egyptian Revolution Day
July 23, 2015 in Egypt
Egyptian Revolution Day takes place on July 23, 2015. Revolution Day refers to the public holiday in Egypt, the anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. It is the biggest secular public holiday in Egypt. Annual celebrations marking the Revolution begin on the preceding evening, as the evening of 22 July 1952 was when the Free Officers Movement led by Muhammad Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser commenced the military coup d’état that launched the Revolution, and ultimately led to the abdication of King Farouk (the penultimate King of Egypt and Sudan). The public holiday itself is characterised by large and elaborate celebrations, including televised concerts with heavily nationalistic themes, and military parades.

World Sjogren’s Day 2015
July 23, 2015 in the World
World Sjögren’s Day was created to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Henrik Sjögren, the Swedish ophthalmologist who discovered Sjögren’s in 1933, which has helped all patients find answers to their health questions.
Sjögren’s (pronounced SHOW-grins) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease in which people’s white blood cells attack their moisture-producing glands. Four primary symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, dry eye and dry mouth, but Sjögren’s may also cause dysfunction of other organs such as the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and the central nervous system.
With upwards of 4,000,000 Americans suffering from Sjögren’s, it is one of the most prevalent but less known autoimmune disorders. This is because Sjögren’s is not a “cookie-cutter” disease, often being overlooked or misdiagnosed since symptoms can manifest in various ways and affect every patient differently.

Vanilla Ice Cream Day
July 23, 2015 in the World
Vanilla Ice Cream Day is observed on July 23, 2015. In North America and Europe the most common use of vanilla flavoring is for ice cream, and many people consider it to be the “default” or “plain” flavour. Sales in ice cream parlors are more variable, as new flavours come and go, but about three times as many people call vanilla their favorite compared to chocolate, the runner-up.
Ice cream may be flavored by artificial or natural vanilla flavoring. Artificial flavorings contain 100% vanillin, the main factor that contributes to natural vanilla extract’s flavor. Natural vanilla extract may also contain nearly 200 more compounds in addition to vanillin. If vanillin from natural vanilla is used then the product is called “vanilla flavored ice cream”. If the ice cream used artificial vanillin then it is labelled as an “artificially flavored vanilla ice-cream”

National Gorgeous Grandma Day
July 23, 2015 in the USA
Many people around the world say that we do not do enough to honour our elderly. Just as well, then, that days such as Gorgeous Grandma Day exist.
Gorgeous Grandma Day is a time of the year in which we can celebrate the grannies in our lives. Everybody thinks that their grandma is gorgeous – so what could be better than an entire day devoted to acknowledging that fact? Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are well known, so Gorgeous Grandma Day is a natural progression.
Now that you know the day exists, hopefully you are already making plans to spend it with your own gran. No matter what your grandmother prefers to do with her time, this is the day in which you can be sure she will have plenty of time to do it – and plenty of people willing to support her.
