Well shoot! And here I thought it was an actual mini-con at my local comic book shop! Yep! Should’ve known it was to good to be true, why would Nathan Fillion come to Muncie, Indiana? 😦

anywho, this is an online thingie that will be happening at select comic book stores. Locally Aw Yeah Comic book store in Muncie will be having this. And here is where you can see if it’s happening near you. And if you are so inclined there are going to be in-store ‘Kick off’ exclusives.

***On a personal note, if you are going to one, maybe drop off a book that your store can donate to the local shelter or hospital for others to enjoy the gift of reading!! That’s always something good to do! 😀

Thursday, the 3rd of March, 2016 is the 63th day in 2016 and in the 9th calendar week.
General Events:

March 3, 2016 in the World
March 03, 2016 is World Wildlife Day. This day had been introduced in 1973 during the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. It aims to save plants and animals in danger of extinctions due to commercial interests. The convention prohibits the trade of such threatened species.
World Wildlife Day stresses the valuable heritage of biodiversity humans are responsible for. Every individual is called to become active and try his best to help save threatened species. At least, people should be aware of how many plants and animals are in danger of extinction and check the species listed. World Wildlife Day is a perfect opportunity to get in touch with this severe problem.

Hinamatsuri 2016
March 3, 2016 in Japan
Hinamatsuri takes place on March 03, 2016. Hinamatsuri is also called the Japanese Doll Festival or Girls’ Day. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.
The custom of displaying dolls began during the Heian period. Formerly, people believed the dolls possessed the power to contain bad spirits. Hinamatsuri traces its origins to an ancient Japanese custom called hina-nagashi, in which straw hina dolls are set afloat on a boat and sent down a river to the sea, supposedly taking troubles or bad spirits with them. The Shimogamo Shrine celebrates the Nagashibina by floating these dolls between the Takano and Kamo Rivers to pray for the safety of children. People have stopped doing this now because of fishermen catching the dolls in their nets
Families generally start to display the dolls in February and take them down immediately after the festival. Superstition says that leaving the dolls past March 4 will result in a late marriage for the daughter.

Peach Blossom Day
March 3, 2016 in the World
Peach Blossom Day is observed on March 03, 2016. It is a day to celebrate peach blossoms and a day for girls to celebrate being girls. Peach Blossom Day refers to the Japanese Doll Festival, which takes place on March 3.
The peach, Prunus persica, is a deciduous tree, native to China and South Asia, where it was first cultivated. It bears an edible juicy fruit also called a peach. The flowers are produced in early spring before the leaves; they are solitary or paired, pink, with five petals. The fruit has yellow or whitish flesh, a delicate aroma, and a skin that is either velvety in different cultivars.
Peaches are not only a popular fruit, but are symbolic in many cultural traditions, such as in art, paintings and folk tales such as Peaches of Immortality. Momotaro, one of Japan’s most noble and semihistorical heroes, was born from within an enormous peach floating down a stream. Momotaro or “Peach Boy” went on to fight evil oni and face many adventures.

International Ear Care Day
March 3, 2016 in the World
International Ear Care Day is an annual advocacy event held on 3 March. Designated at the First International Conference on Prevention and Rehabilitation of Hearing Impairment in Beijing, China in 2007, the Day aims to raise awareness and promote ear and hearing care across the world.
Each year, this Day addresses a specific theme and activities are carried out by WHO and its partners. The theme for World Hearing Day 2016 is ‘Childhood hearing loss: act now, here is how!’ This aims to draw attention to the fact that the majority of causes which lead to hearing loss in children can be prevented through public health measures. Further, those who have hearing loss can benefit greatly from early identification and suitable, timely interventions. The day aims to raise awareness about public health strategies to reduce the prevalence and impact of hearing loss.

National I Want You to be Happy Day
March 3, 2016 in the USA
National I Want You to be Happy Day is observed annually on March 3.  This day was created as a day encouraging us to do something to make others happy.  Putting a smile on someone’s face tends to put one on ours, too.
It’s actually quite limitless.  A flower here, a silly knock-knock joke there.  Buy the person’s coffee standing in line behind you.  Remind your kids how much you love them.  Leave a sticky note for a co-worker telling them to have a spectacular day, a happy day.  Draw a happy face in the snow for a stranger to come across later.  Give someone a hug.
