<3 coffee =^.^=

Do you love Coffee? We all love coffee its the number one drink in the world!

Coffee has a long history of being blamed for many ills — from the humorous “It will stunt your growth” to the not-so-humorous claim that it causes heart disease and cancer. But recent research indicates that coffee may not be so bad after all. So which is it — good or bad? The best answer may be that for most people the health benefits outweigh the risks.

Recent studies have generally found no connection between coffee and an increased risk of cancer or heart disease. Why the apparent reversal in the thinking about coffee? Earlier studies didn’t always take into account that known high-risk behaviors, such as smoking and physical inactivity, tended to be more common among heavy coffee drinkers at that time. However, the research appears to bear out some risks. High consumption of unfiltered coffee is associated with mild elevations in cholesterol levels. And another study found that two or more cups of coffee a day can increase the risk of heart disease in people with a specific — and fairly common — genetic mutation that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. So, how quickly you metabolize coffee may affect your health risk.

Newer studies have also shown that coffee may have benefits, such as protecting against Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes and liver cancer. And it has a high content of antioxidants. But this doesn’t mean you should disregard the old maxim “Everything in moderation.” Although coffee may not be very harmful, other beverages such as milk and juice contain nutrients that coffee does not. Also, keep in mind that coffee accompaniments such as cream and sugar add fat and calories to your diet. Finally, heavy caffeine use — on the order of four to seven cups of coffee a day — can cause problems such as restlessness, anxiety, irritability and sleeplessness, particularly in susceptible individuals.

Coffee Contains Powerful Antioxidants; Antioxidants are compounds found in many plant-based foods, such as pomegranates, blueberries, and strawberries, that help the body fight damage from molecules that can harm the body’s cellular structures. These antioxidants help prevent diseases and slow the aging process of cells, which help them perform better within the body.

Results from long-term studies are showing that coffee may not increase the risk for high blood pressure over time, as previously thought. Study findings for other cardiovascular effects are a mixed bag.

Coffee might have anti-cancer properties. Last year, researchers found that coffee drinkers were 50% less likely to get liver cancer than nondrinkers. A few studies have found ties to lower rates of colon, breast, and rectal cancers. Two substances in coffee — kahweol and cafestol — raise cholesterol levels. Paper filters capture these substances, but that doesn’t help the many people who now drink non-filtered coffee drinks, such as lattes. Researchers have also found a link between cholesterol increases and decaffeinated coffee, possibly because of the type of bean used to make certain decaffeinated coffees.

Heavy coffee drinkers may be half as likely to get diabetes as light drinkers or nondrinkers. Coffee may contain chemicals that lower blood sugar. A coffee habit may also increase your resting metabolism rate, which could help keep diabetes at bay.Parkinson’s disease. Coffee seems to protect men, but not women, against Parkinson’s disease. One possible explanation for the sex difference may be that estrogen and caffeine need the same enzymes to be metabolized, and estrogen captures those enzymes.

So with these Health Benefits known, Coffee is actually good for you. Go ahead and go grab a cup of coffee and be sure to thank Ishtar, the Goddess of Coffee, who gave coffee beans to man and taught him to cultivate it.
Ishtar means Star of Heaven, and coffee was once known as the drink of the Gods. We Still see Ishtar today as she is the Woman Goddess on the Starbucks label.

Saturday errands

So on Saturday I had to run to Indy – lots of stuff to do.
The ring I had taken back to get fixed was in, the order I placed was in-which was odd, it was supposed to be mailed to me. However they decided to ship it to my ‘favorite’ location and save me the shipping. Awesome! Then a few other items had come in at a store in Carmel.

And so I had gotten up early to get an early start as I had to have the car back in time for Hubs to go to work.

I found a really good parking spot right up near the first store I needed to go. Went into Macy’s and oops! That item is in the locked vault, and the person with the code is not here today, they might be back before Christmas…. *Facepalm* But then I found a few little items on super sale!!

Next store, Swarovski, and the ring I had brought in was NOT the ring they tried to give me. The bad news is that it’s hub’s ring, I was getting it fixed to surprise him for Christmas…. um oops! Anywho the manager is a friend and she decided to do what she does best and fixed it. Problem- I won’t have it in time for Christmas, good news I should have by the end of the week. So yeah, that works.

And then I decided to walk around the mall and just window shop. H U G E mistake in hindsight.
I walk into a fairly nice store (Nope not saying where) and I lean my cane against the counter to get a closer look at what’s in the display. When someone walks up slightly behind me and starts to grab my cane. *I don’t use a cane for looks, I rely on this cane. So as they grab the handle, my hand comes down and grabs their wrist, in effect stopping them from moving. And that’s when all chaos broke out. She (thief) started screaming bloody murder that I was stealing ‘her’ cane, and her little grand kids started yelling at me too. They called store security and when I showed my id’s and they checked the camera they decided I was telling the truth. Then they asked me to let her go, and she could leave. UH HELL NO! She just tried to pinch my cane. I wanted ‘real’ security and not a mall cop. So! After a bit, the real police showed up and took my statement, meanwhile- they were emptying this person’s over-sized purse and OMG! Guess what they found? Over $5000. in merchandise inside, from various stores in the mall. And in the little kids clothes and the one’s diaper- more merchandise as well.
So the store manager apologized to me, for all the mean and rude things he and his salesclerk had said about me. This person was African American-so naturally as a white woman, I was being racist! OMG *FacePALM*
She was the one in the wrong-breaking the law, I didn’t care what color she was, she was in the wrong. And then She was using little kids as her accomplices. So natch when CWS came to pick them up. I was in the wrong… oi!
Bottom line of the story, I stopped a shoplifter who had taken a lot of merchandise throughout the mall, and she had been using little kids as her unwitting accomplices. And yet, I was made to feel like it was all my fault, people calling me a racist because she was African American and I’m white. Really? Honestly, I did my civic duty and stopped a crime. It didn’t matter to me what color she was or that it’s Christmas- yes a few people said I should’ve dropped it in the spirit of Christmas. What part of Christmas allows one to steal, I’m sorry I must’ve missed that in my reading of the Holiday.

Oh yeah, word of advice and this store I will post the name to, as you should be aware of their practices; Whole Foods. I placed an order a month ago, and received the phone call that my order was in. So while in Indy I decided to drive over and pick it up, and calm down from all the earlier excitement. However when I got there, they told me that “Well since we got a huge shipment we just put it all out on the shelf.” Okay??? This item sells fast, which is why I placed an order to have it held! So instead of getting the full order I placed, I bought two of the items, and when the girl looked at me funny, “You didn’t hold my order, so why should I buy anymore than I have to.” Honestly, I was still upset from earlier and this hit me the wrong way. If you place an order for a set amount, don’t you expect to have that order waiting for you, and not have it all placed back on the shelf? And then the sales clerk called me a bitch. Uh Yeah! That set me off again, and if these items weren’t a Christmas present, I would’ve walked out of the store. As it was, I had the manager called. Once again, it was considered my fault, as I didn’t get all I had ordered, and when I tried to explain to him patiently, that it was his clerk’s fault for putting my order on the shelf, I wasn’t buying the full amount anymore, because obviously, my order/money isn’t that important. So yeah, she got away with calling a paying customer a bitch! Yes, I did halve my purchase and only bought the minimum I needed for my friend’s Christmas present. I couldn’t leave without something for her. This was the only thing she wanted, and unfortunately, this is the only place in Indy to get it. I’m checking later for a website that carries something similar. OI!

I stopped at Starbucks and got me a Venti something or other, and started the drive back home. I set the cruise for the speed limit and listened to people honk at me, and pass me by. Seriously, I was doing the speed limit and whatever! I took a detour on the way home and ended up on a nice drive which calmed me down considerably. Not everything went the way it could, but it could have been much worse. When I got home and Hubs had left for work, then my phone rang and it was a clerk at Macy’s that informed me that she could open the locked cabinet and that she would be there on Sunday. So yeah, another drive down on Sunday, and I was able to get my niece’s present, and a few other little gifts. They gave me a ‘perks’ coupon for the inconvenience. And this time, I only shopped in Macy’s. Within an hour, everything was good to go, and I left.

Sunday went much smoother, I just stayed in the one store. No more drama.
I’ve said it before, but this time of year seems to bring out the worst in people. So much for goodwill and blah blah blah.

Anywho…I hope ya’ll are having a joyous time of year, with a lack of drama!
Happy Holidays!

Cyber shopping

So I learned something about my bank card today; it’s only meant to be used within the state of Indiana, weird. I was shopping on amazon, found some stuff for a much better price then what’s offered in brick & mortar stores. So I went to order them, and that’s when I got a surprise… order declined. WTH? So I called my bank this morning and that’s when I found out the restriction. It’s been fixed, and I’ve placed my orders, however only one will now make it here before christmas, and that one… I really needed it asap! Oh well, at least I got it. That’s what counts. Now if only I could explain that to a few ppl. I dislike a lot about this season, the constant bitching, the getting upset over trivial stuff, and the anger from people who are normally not quick to anger. Yeah! I do like the spirit of goodwill, when it’s given to everyone, and not just a ‘select’ few. I love the holiday lights, the individualism in people’s decorations, their trees. But the other stuff right now is very frustrating. It’s a day. Honestly! We have 364 unbirthdays, so let’s be able to give a present after the holiday. Please…patience. OI!
Anywho, the bottom line is my holiday spirit is now lacking due to people that are getting angry over stuff that is trivial.

Take some time, breathe, step back and think about what you’re getting upset over. Is it really worth it? Not really. I’m going to go read now. Think Charles Dickens sounds good about now. 🙂 Ya’ll be safe, it’s raining right now in my area, but that’s before the winter storm that’s coming. Take time and hug those you love!!

oi I need a bubble

So on Tuesday, over halfway to my doctor’s appt, and called them to let them know I might be running a titch late, and they tell me that it was cancelled, and that I’m being rescheduled. oi okay… so I turn around, and get back to Muncie- had to go to the clinic and do my lab work there. Lil vampires needed my blood, and I wasn’t going to keep driving all the way into downtown Indy and deal with the wacky traffic.

Anywho got my labs done, and went to go take care of some other stuff while in Muncie. And I fell. Bad! Landed right on my bad knee-natch! And OW!

so I completed my errands as quickly as possible, and even managed to get my hair cut. I think I fell after that… can’t remember.

anywho by the time I got home my knee was really swollen bad. So I elevated it and started icing it down… yeah didn’t work to well. By the time hubs came home, he had to cut off my pants it had swollen that much, it kinda looked like a swollen grapefruit.

And then I had yesterday off to keep it elevated and immobilized. Which actually helped a lot, it’s down to semi-normal size, and I’m really relying on my cane this morning. I didn’t want to use my crutches. They hurt after a bit-anyone that’s ever used them, knows what I mean.

So yeah, at work, really early – and I’m sitting here doing this entry and then watching my movie again. I still have two hours till I’m officially on the clock.

be careful, it’s slick out there!

and now for some humor thanks to my friend, Skeen!!

So Word Press has some lovely new themes out there, and instead of going ‘live’ on my photoblog, I’ve decided to start a new one, and see if I like it there. I have quite a bit of different art, and I may keep both sites, or…I may drop one. Plus honestly, I never liked the name of the other, and kept having difficulty trying to change it. 😛

So take a look at the new:

The old:

let me know which one you like, please and thank you!

a friend of mine, likes both!! LOL
okay, so what I’m thinking…creative musings specifically for what I create, and the other photoblog for stuff I want to share, and/or photos from trips what have you.
sound good?

Friends versus pests…

Or how to be unfriended on Facebook. So I am a social person, and I do like it a lot. However I am not on 24/7 for your needs! And pm’ing me six to eight times asking why I haven’t responded to you, is a good way to be unfriended. Another way is to compliment me multiple times, you’re so beautiful, you’re such a beautiful person and worded in other ways but beauty is the main issue. Hmmm???
And then the next personal questions; are you married? do you have kids? You’d be such a beautiful mom, I’d love you to be the mom of my kids.

Yeah… see a pattern here??? 😦

It’s awesome making nice new friends, honestly, but getting to these personal questions and the constant flattery should be a warning sign for people. Honestly! I’ve already informed this person I am married, and that I do work and I chat when I am able, not when someone thinks I should be. They appear very polite, however my tingly senses are still tingling!! And not in a good way! And ding ding ding, there are now eleven pm’s from this person. I think I shall be unfriending them by the end of the day. I’ve explained, quite politely, that when I’m working I do not PM constantly through out the day. Unless it’s a known Friend in real life, and even then, they know not to constantly say why haven’t you responded. Because duh, they know I’m working.

So… that’s my rule of how to become a pest and be unfriended very shortly. Social media is awesome, however remember not everyone has the time or wherewithal to be on it 24/7.

Now then… onto to work, and making some more virtual Christmas/Yule goodies.
I’m doing a virtual not secret Santa. The benefits to this, it’s free!! It just takes some time to post something to someone’s wall, shoot them an email, or what have you. It’s obviously not secret as duh, you can see who’s posting to your wall. But it’s also nice- for the group I run, as the people are all friends of mine, and this way they get to interact with each other. So we all become friends. 🙂 I’m a bit sneaky, but I do this with love! lol
***Oh, the one thing that wouldn’t be free, and it’s up to the individuals participating, if they are okay with exchanging addresses and sending each other a Christmas card via the postal service.

I hope ya’ll are having a lovely day! it’s crisp and cool here in Indiana, looking at my Solar app it says it’s 27 degrees here.

ps- blog on my NANO experience coming soon…

oh good grief! Really?? :(

So I had a photo reported to the FB whatevers… this cracks me up, I am the last one to post on that place anything that would be considered more than a PG rating.

and for your perusal- here’s the pic. Do you see any reason why this was reported? For nudity??? Really? WHERE?

update on the car

“It’s dead, Jim!”

It threw a rod, and for the six grand it would take to fix it, I could put a down payment on a car and still have money left over. But yeah… everything is loading up fast. So I’m cancelling Thanksgiving, and Christmas. 😦

We were going to maybe go out on Turkey day, no invites yet… so… that’s off up in the air.

Secret Santa stuff, sorry, I’m not going to be able to afford it. Trips to Starbase Indy, off the itinerary. A Klingon Christmas Carol, off the itinerary. And other cute holiday stuff I was looking forward to.

No. It’s not the end of the world. I know that. But it’s just overwhelming me right now. I’ll be fine in a few days…once my cold bug starts to go away, I should be able to think clearly, it’s just right now. F U C K ! ya know?

Ya’ll take care!! Hugs
and send ’em back if you have any! thank you 🙂

no nano updates

What’s up?

I have an emergency doctor’s appt tomorrow morning at the VA in Indy. yay
And I get to have a blood draw and the whole shebang.
Which is okay with me at the mo.

I’m not myself…and yeah… ya’ll have a great day!
send hugs, I need ’em.

Nano write-a-thon day

Yep, I’m going to be unsociable today. Eight hours of writing next. I missed writing yesterday, went to the Dentist’s who took one look at my face and asked if I was having sinus problems. See told ya, it looked bad. Anywho he poked around a bit and then prescribed me some antibiotics, yep, I have a sinus infection again. UGH. So I spent most of the day yesterday sleeping on and off, and shivering- seems I’ve also got a bit of a flu buggie. UGH!

But it’s Saturday and it’s time to write. So…hope ya’ll have a lovely day! It’s beautiful outside my window. And from what I’ve told by hubs, it’s nice outside too.
