Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day
November 24, 2014 in the World
What’s your unique talent? Can you make a perfect soufflé? Maybe you know where to find the best bargains in town. Perhaps you’re resourceful or crafty and can find a hundred and one uses for an old piece of wood. Or it could be that you give the world’s best hugs. No matter what your special gift is, be sure to share it on Sunday November 24, 2013, officially dubbed as Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day.
Although there is no known official history or origin for this day, it’s simply a great way to celebrate individuality. Interestingly enough, this day occurs near the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. The timing couldn’t be better! Now is your chance to brush up on your special gifts in time to share them with family and friends around the dinner table.

D.B. Cooper Day
November 24, 2014 in Ariel, Washington, USA
On November 24th 1971, an unassuming passenger aboard Northwest Orient Flight 305 from Portland to Seattle passed a note to a flight attendant that read, “I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit next to me. You are being hijacked.”
The man (who had given his name as “Dan Cooper” when he bought his ticket) made his demands known—the jet would land in Seattle, where he would receive $200,000 and four parachutes. The plane would be refueled, and allowed to take off again. Upon receiving the ransom, Cooper allowed all the other passengers and two attendants to leave the plane. The Boeing 727 left Seattle at 7:40 PM with a minimal flight crew and instructions to fly to Reno, Nevada.
Shortly after 8:00 PM, the aircrew (whom Cooper had ordered to stay in the cockpit) received indications that the jet’s rear stairs had been deployed. Cooper was gone, having bailed out somewhere over southwest Washington state. He was never seen again; the case remains as the only unsolved instance of air piracy in FBI history.
That was then, this is now. Over 40 years later, Cooper’s true identity and eventual fate are hotly-debated topics at D. B. Cooper Days, held annually in the tiny hamlet of Ariel, Washington, in the area where Cooper is supposed to have jumped. Authors on the case attend to discuss evidence with Cooper fans and defend their hypotheses. There is food, beer, and live music. A costume contest selects the best lookalikes of Cooper and the aircrew. Speculation runs rampant, and glasses are raised in toast to the notorious antihero who got away.

Special Doctor Who / calendar day! :D

November 23 is notable for a number of highly varied events on Earth and its parallels:
-1638 – The Seventh Doctor launched the Nemesis statue into orbit after battling Lady Peinforte with the help of Roundheads in a meadow in Windsor. The Doctor calculated that the statue would pass Earth every twenty-five years before returning in 1988, and set his watch to remind himself. (TV: Silver Nemesis)
-1866 – Clara Oswin Oswald, a “splinter” of companion Clara Oswald, was born, as she would later claim, “inside Big Ben.” (TV: The Snowmen)
-1963 – A new science fiction television series, Doctor…, began broadcasting on the BBC. (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks)
-1963 – Jorjie Turner was sent from 2050 to 1963. She was retrieved by K9 Mark 2 and Starkey. They also saved William Pike from being arrested by Barker. These actions resulted in preventing Darius Pike from being erased from history. (TV: The Cambridge Spy)
-1986 – Clara Oswald, later a companion of the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, was born in Blackpool to Ellie and Dave Oswald. (TV: Death in Heaven, TV: The Rings of Akhaten)
-1988 – The Nemesis statue returned to Earth, crash landing in the spot in Windsor from which it was launched. The Seventh Doctor battled Lady Peinforte, Cybermen, and Neo-Nazis to prevent the statue from falling into the wrong hands. (TV: Silver Nemesis)
-2010 – Sarah Jane Smith, Clyde Langer and Rani Chandra arrived at the Shopkeeper’s shop after the day’s issue of the Ealing Echo had the main story featuring him claiming that an alien was in his shop. He revealed that it was a ploy to get them there and sent them through a time window, each to a different time period, so they could find three special objects. (TV: Lost in Time)
-1863 – Victoria Waterfield’s mother Edith Waterfield died of pneumonia at the age of 37. (Novels: Downtime, The Age of Ambition)
-1945 – James Stevens was born in New Zealand. He was technically born on 22 November G.M.T. time. (Novel: Who Killed Kennedy)
-1948 – Debbie was born. (Novel: Those Left Behind)
-1963 – The Fourth Doctor and K9 Mark II returned to 76 Totter’s Lane to retrieve a Heshrax insect which he had been tracking the day that he left. While there, they met Debbie, Susan’s best friend from Coal Hill School. Debbie, who turned fifteen that day, was concerned about Susan’s sudden disappearance as she knew that Susan would never miss her birthday. She had met the First Doctor on one occasion but the Fourth Doctor did not recall seeing her before. He also did not remember Susan ever mentioning Debbie but admitted that he was not always the best listener. He told Debbie that Susan decided to stay on 22nd century Earth but then amended this by adding that he chose for her, expressing the hope that this decision was for the best. Debbie was thankful that she met the Doctor as, while she knew that she would never see Susan again, she could at least live her life safe in the knowledge that she was safe in the future rather than spend it wondering what happened to Susan and fearing the worst. (Novel: Those Left Behind)
-1963 – A creature called the Shroud entered Earth soon after the assassination of the president and fed off of people’s grief all around the world. The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald stopped the alien before it could take over the planet, and the whole event was written off as a chemical attack. (Novel: Shroud of Sorrow)

And another HUGE thank you to Skeen!! xoxo ❤
