Hello and welcome to Important dates in March

We start off on March 1st with AFWD 2019 aka Take your Action Figure to Work Day

Alex doesn’t want to be left out of the fun! 😉

We then segue into Mardi Gras on March 5 for those of us that like Fun! Beads optional! 🙂

What happens after Fat Tuesday? why Ash Wednesday of Course! March 6th
For those that are about to start Lent, we feel for you! NO Meat Fridays, giving up something you really like for forty days! yes, I remember being forced to do that nonsense too! But it’s what you do for your faith! Remember!! Be nice to people!

And then it’s Mercury Retrograde 1st cycle of the year
Now depending on who you believe it starts on the fifth or the sixth! I’m going to go with the earlier date, better safe than sorry! lol 🙂

Remember Mercury is the God of Communication and most importantly try not to take things personally. They don’t really mean it. Some people will say offensive things and they don’t mean to, it’s just that their thinking is muddied and their communication skills are sub par right now. This won’t be forever only until March 28! for this cycle. oops 😛
PS- I’m not yelling, I swear! It’s just this is really important and so I used Caps lock. okay, I’ll take JiJi whapping me in the head with his tail, owies!!

Now for the important stuff!

BACK UP YOUR DATA!

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING BIG, FOR EXAMPLE, CARS, COMPUTERS, PHONES AND IF YOU DO, BE SURE TO TRIPLE CHECK ALL THE PAPERWORK AND ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE A WARRANTY!

THIS CAN BE A STRESSFUL TIME, BUT TRY TO BE PATIENT AND HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR. NO ONE LIKES HAVING THINGS GO HAYWIRE. SPEAKING OF, IF YOU HAVE A PENDING TRIP, PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK ANY INFORMATION YOU WERE GIVEN AND ENSURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE, TICKETS, PASSPORT, MONEY, CLOTHES, TOLIETRY ITEMS. YES, I’M SERIOUS! YOU REALLY WANT TO BE CAUGHT HALF-WAY AROUND THE WORLD WITHOUT YOUR SPECIAL MEDICATIONS, OR SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY, REALLY NEED AND THE HOTEL CAN’T ARRANGE FOR IT. YEP, MERCURY RETROGRADE.

NOW FOR THE POSITIVE SIDE OF MERCURY RETROGRADE, I KNOW, SO FAR IT’S ALL BEEN NUTS! BUT IF YOU NEED TO TIE UP LOOSE ENDS ON PROJECTS, WARDROBE REORGANIZATION, HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, WELL NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO FINISH THOSE!

And then on March 8th, it’s International Women’s Day
Re-read the above if you will be taking a trip for this most opportune day and weekend!

Looking back to my college days, like ten years ago. LOL 😀 I was to come up with a collage of my influences and that is representative of Me.  My influences: Rosie the Riveter- pretty self-explanatory I think. Gloria Steinem- I was a child of the ’70s and she told me I could do whatever I wanted! So yeah, had to have her in there. The Statue- I was looking for one of Pallas Athena-but couldn’t find a good one…so I ran across this one and I liked it. Reminds me of a woman running with a torch- to light the way! The Dancing Silhouettes those are my friends celebrating life! This was drawn by Sean O’Donnell and colored by Moi aka GroovyGoddess 😉

so many people hate this day! I love ❤ it!! Spring Forward and we get more daylight now!!
March 10th at 3am.

OMG we then have PI DAY 3/14

And the next day is the 15th the Ides of March which I remember as Cesear being killed, stabbed at the Senate. And that’s it. Apparently, there is other stuff too. So here’s a wiki link

And then it’s time to celebrate and get my Irish on! Oh right, Alex is helping here too!
March 17th Saint Patrick’s Day

And then Blessed Ostara Everyone on March 20th aka the Vernal Equinox

a very pretty Ostara altar, not mine but in case you need an example of what you could do!
I do have that Gaia statue from Oberon Zell

And from Alex, Blessed Ostara and Happy International Earth Day

And that’s it for March, lots of fun holidays and other stuff too! I’ll be posting some more Alex art and action shots from #AFWD2019 (duh) and other holiday stuff too! Have a beautiful week! Happy Monday!

Spring Equinox
March 20, 2014 in Northern Hemisphere

Today is the Spring Equinox, the official first day of Spring is in 2014 on March 20 (according to the astronomical definition). Spring is one of the four temperate seasons, the transition period between winter and summer. Spring and “springtime” refer to the season, and broadly to ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth.

The specific definition of the exact timing of “spring” varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. At the spring equinox or the first day of spring, days are close to 12 hours long with day length increasing as the season progresses.

In spring, the axis of the Earth is increasing its tilt toward the Sun and the length of daylight rapidly increases for the relevant hemisphere. The hemisphere begins to warm significantly causing new plant growth to “spring forth,” giving the season its name. Snow, if a normal part of winter, begins to melt, and streams swell with runoff. Frosts, if a normal part of winter, become less severe.

Unstable weather may more often occur during spring, when warm air begins on occasions to invade from lower latitudes, while cold air is still pushing on occasions from the Polar regions. Flooding is also most common in and near mountainous areas during this time of year because of snowmelt, accelerated by warm rains. (With material from: Wikipedia)

Note: The date March 20, 2014 is calculated for Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5). It can vary in other time zones.

Vernal Equinox Day
March 20, 2014 in Japan

Vernal Equinox Day is observed on March 20, 2014. Vernal Equinox Day (jap. Shunbun no Hi) is a public holiday in Japan that occurs on the date of the Northward equinox in Japan Standard Time, usually March 20 or 21. The date of the holiday is not officially declared until February of the previous year, due to the need for recent astronomical measurements. Vernal Equinox Day became a public holiday in 1948. Prior to that it was the date of Shunki k?reisai, an event relating to Shintoism. Like other Japanese holidays, this holiday was repackaged as a non-religious holiday for the sake of separation of religion and state in Japan’s postwar constitution.

International Day of Happiness
March 20, 2014 in the World

Day of Happiness is celebrated on March 20, 2014. The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on 20 March. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 June 2012. The International Day of Happiness recognizes the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings.

Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happiness is a fuzzy concept and can mean many things to many people. Part of the challenge of a science of happiness is to identify different concepts of happiness, and where applicable, split them into their components.

World Storytelling Day
March 20, 2014 in the World

The World Storytelling Day is on March 20, 2014. It is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling. It is celebrated every year on the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, the first day of autumn equinox in the southern.

On World Storytelling Day, as many people as possible tell and listen to stories in as many languages and at as many places as possible, during the same day and night. Participants tell each other about their events in order to share stories and inspiration, to learn from each other and create international contacts.

The significance in the event lies in the fact that it is the first global celebration of storytelling of its kind, and has been important in forging links between storytellers often working far apart from each other. It has also been significant in drawing public and media attention to storytelling as an art form.

Storytelling is the conveying of events in words, images and sounds, often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and in order to instill moral values. Crucial elements of stories and storytelling include plot, characters and narrative point of view.

World Sparrow Day
March 20, 2014 in the World

World Sparrow Day is celebrated on March 20, 2014. World Sparrow Day is a day designated to raise awareness of the House Sparrow and other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations. It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organisations across the world.

The idea of marking a World Sparrow Day came up during an informal discussion at the Nature Forever Society’s office. The idea was to earmark a day for the House Sparrow to convey the message of conservation of the House Sparrow and other common birds and also mark a day of celebration to appreciate the beauty of the common biodiversity which is taken so much for granted. The first World Sparrow Day was celebrated in 2010 in different parts of the world.

World Sparrow Day also has a broader vision to provide a platform where people who are working on the conservation of the House Sparrow and other common birds can network, collaborate and exchange conservation ideas which will lead to better science and improved results.

The House Sparrow is strongly associated with human habitations, and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, and deserts away from human development. Because of its numbers, ubiquity and association with human settlements, the sparrow is culturally prominent.

Extraterrestrial Abductions Day
March 20, 2014 in the World

Extraterrestrial Abductions Day (also called Alien Abduction Day) is a new festivity observed on March 20. Its origins are unclear, though it seems it was popularized since the 2008 Alien Abduction Day festival in Toronto.

Keep one eye on the sky. And, be ready to duck, dodge, and to hide. UFO’s may be everywhere, looking to abduct humans. If you are not careful, perhaps they will find you! Of course, there are more than a few people out there who are looking to be abducted by aliens, so they can travel to another planet.

Celebrate today by reading and watching science fiction stories about UFOs and Extraterrestrials. And, make sure to keep out of sight of extraterrestrials.

UN French Language Day
March 20, 2014 in the World

UN French Language Day is celebrated on March 20, 2014. The event was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. The day is observed annually in order to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six its official working languages throughout the organization.

March 20 was chosen as the date for the French language since it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the International Organization of La Francophonie. French is a Romance language spoken as a first language in France, the Romandy region in Switzerland, Wallonia and Brussels in Belgium, Monaco, the province of Quebec and the Acadia region in Canada, the north of the U.S. state of Louisiana, and by various communities elsewhere.

French is an official language in 29 countries. It as well is an official language of all United Nations agencies and a large number of international organizations. French was the most important language of diplomacy and international relations from the 17th century to approximately the middle of the 20th century. English has taken over that role since then.

Snowman Burning Day
March 20, 2014 in USA-Michigan

Today is Snowman Burning Day! Every year on the first day of spring, students at Lake Superior State University burn a snowman to celebrate the end of winter. The inspiration for this unique tradition comes from the Rose Sunday Festival in Germany. The mayor of each town burns a straw snowman if the children of the town have been well behaved all year. The smoke rising from the bonfire is supposed to ward off blizzards and usher in the spring season.

The first Snowman Burning Day took place in 1971. An LSSU student club called the Unicorn Hunters organized the event and established several traditions including the annual poetry competition. Students, faculty, staff, townspeople, and kids in the community compose poems about the snowman burning and recite them during the event.
