Creamsicle Day
August 14, 2013 in the USA

National Creamsicle Day is observed on August 14, 2013. Creamsicles are one type of popsicle. It is made by freezing flavored liquid (such as fruit juice) and ice cream around a stick. Often, the juice is colored artificially. Once the liquid freezes solid, the stick can be used as a handle to hold the ice pop.

The first recorded ice pop was created in 1905 by 11-year-old Frank Epperson of Oakland, CA, who left a glass of soda water powder and water outside in his back porch with a wooden mixing stick in it. That night the temperature dropped below freezing, and when Epperson returned to the drink the next morning, he found that the soda water had frozen inside the glass, and that by running it under hot water, he was able to remove (and eat) the frozen soda water chunk using the stick as a handle.

In the United States and Canada frozen ice on a stick is generically referred to as a popsicle due to the early popularity of the Popsicle brand, and the word has become a genericized trademark to mean any ice pop or freezer pop, regardless of brand or format. In the USA they are also called an ice pop or freezer pop.

Twins Days Festival
August 2 – 4, 2013 in Twinsburg, Ohio

Twins Days Festival takes place from August 02 till August 04, 2013. It is celebrated each year on the first full weekend of August in Twinsburg, Ohio. Twins Days Festival is the largest annual gathering of biological twins and other multiples (e.g. triplets, quads) in the world. It was founded in 1976 by Revco’s Charles R. DeHaven. http://www.twinsdays.org/

The event has twin based contests, “talent” shows which is opened every year with the Star Spangled Banner sung by John and Jerry Starlet and signed in ASL by Jamie Maassen and Jodie Qualkinbush, and a parade along Ravenna Road and routinely draws thousands of participants from all over the United States.

A twin is one of two offspring produced in the same pregnancy. Twins can either be monozygotic (“identical”), meaning that they develop from one zygote that splits and forms two embryos, or dizygotic (“fraternal”) meaning that they develop from two eggs, each fertilized by separate sperm cells.

Ice Cream Sandwich Day
August 2, 2013 in the USA

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day is a time to enjoy a cold sandwich…….an ice cream sandwich.

In July and August, we find many special days for one kind of ice cream or another. The ice cream sandwich is so popular, and tastes so good, that it earns its own special day….today.

Ice cream sandwiches have been around since the early 1900s. Vanilla, chocolate and a combination of the two, are the most popular. You can make homemade sandwiches. Just put some ice cream between a couple wafers, and.. …Voila! Don’t have wafers? That’s okay. Put some ice cream between two of your favorite cookies.

Lammas
Lammas 2013
August 1, 2013 in Northern Hemisphere

Lammas is observed on August 01, 2013. In some English-speaking countries in the Northern Hemisphere, August 1 is Lammas Day (Anglo-Saxon hlaf-mas, “loaf-mass”), the festival of the wheat harvest, and is the first harvest festival of the year. On this day it was customary to bring to church a loaf made from the new crop, which began to be harvested at Lammastide. The loaf was blessed, and in Anglo-Saxon England it might be employed afterwards to work magic: A book of Anglo-Saxon charms directed that the lammas bread be broken into four bits, which were to be placed at the four corners of the barn, to protect the garnered grain. In many parts of England, tenants were bound to present freshly harvested wheat to their landlords on or before the first day of August. In the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, where it is referred to regularly, it is called “the feast of first fruits”. The blessing of first fruits was performed annually in both the Eastern and Western Churches on the first or the sixth of August. Lammas coincides with the feast of St. Peter in Chains, commemorating St. Peter’s miraculous deliverance from prison.

Lughnasadh 2013
August 1, 2013 in Ireland and Scotland
Lughnasadh takes place on August 01, 2013. Lughnasadh is a traditional Gaelic holiday celebrated on 1 August. It originated as a harvest festival, corresponding to the Welsh Calan Awst and the English Lammas.

Lughnasadh is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals; along with Samhain, Imbolc and Beltane. Lughnasadh is mentioned in some of the earliest Irish literature and is believed to have pagan origins. The festival itself is named after the god Lugh.

Oi!
so I haven’t updated in a bit, tired, headache’s, and yeah…problems with the dsl at home.

so what’s shakin bacon, well…

my plot bunnies have arrived, I think it’s the fact that the weather is getting nicer. I’ve started a new story, and in an established universe I’ve never played in, so this should be fun.

then on Sunday, we went to the Ft Wayne mall, and I found a store I’ve semi-fallen in love with. Torrid. Nice!!
I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight, and thus my clothes have been falling off me. Belts can only hold up so much, and then it just looks funky! So I bought some new outfits, pants BOGO half off. Tops that were on clearance also BOGO. All in all, with the reward program I signed up for, I saved enough to buy a few more outfits, but I controlled myself. And instead went to a new food place. Well new to us, Red Robin, really good hamburgers. I really liked their patty melt. Plus they have bottomless fries, yeah, we stayed there for a bit. Hubs took that literally and had five to six plates of chips. LOL While at the mall, I went into the Barnes and Nobles and squee! They had the new JR Ward book; Lover at Last and it was 20-30% off!! Sold!! Hubs got me the cutest little plot bunny there too! Truffle from Tokidoki.
So all in all, Sunday was a good day!

Today, I’m having another headache, but I truly believe it’s weather related. Feels like a sinus ache trying to blow up. I’ll be fine. 🙂

anywho…nothing really to say this morning, except have an Awesome day!
