Black Friday 2013
November 29, 2013 in the USA

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November. According to Reuters, in 2007 135 million people participated in the Black Friday shopping rush.

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but as many workers have the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday, this increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas and holiday season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open extremely early, with most of the retailers typically opening at 5AM or even earlier. Some of the larger retailers (depending on the location) such as Sears, Best Buy, Macy’s, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart have been reported to open as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday in localized areas and remain open for 24 hours throughout the day until midnight the following Saturday. Upon opening, retailers offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term “Black Friday” has been traced back only to the 1960s.

The term “Black Friday” may have originated in Philadelphia, where was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. (see Origin of the name “Black Friday” below). More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

Buy Nothing Day
November 29, 2013 in the USA

The Buy Nothing Day (BND) is an international day of protest against consumerism observed by social activists. Typically celebrated the Friday after American Thanksgiving in North America and the following day internationally, in 2013 the date is November 29. It was founded by Vancouver artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by Adbusters magazine, based in Canada.

Various gatherings, shenanigans, and forms of protest have been used on Buy Nothing Day to draw attention to the perceived problem of over-consumption. The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Vancouver in September 1992 “as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption.” In 1997, it was moved to the Friday after American Thanksgiving, also called “Black Friday”, which is one of the 10 busiest shopping days in the United States.

Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
November 29, 2013 in the World

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed on November 29, 2013. The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a UN-organized observance. Events are held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, as well as at the United Nations offices at Geneva and Vienna. It is generally held on November 29 each year to mark the anniversary of resolution 181. Special commemorative activities are organized by the Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat, in consultation with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The day was selected in part because it was the day when Cypriot-Palestinian Christian Orthodox priest Saint Philoumenos of Jacob’s Well was murdered in 1979.

Square Dance Day
November 29, 2013 in the World

Here’s a chance to get out and “Dosey Do” with your partner. It’s Square Dance Day!

English, Irish, and Scottish settlers brought square dancing to the U.S. As it evolved in the U.S., a caller was added, to help dancers stay in step. It remains popular among southern and western rural areas, and with senior citizens.

Couples square dance in circles or square formations. It’s lively and quick, and lots of fun.

Square Dancing is both fun, and great exercise. Medical sites and journals speaks to its health benefits for people of all ages.

Did some shopping Friday night, after I got off work, at Kohl’s. They were having a HUGE Sale on houseware stuff, and I needed some new towels. And then we also picked up some stuff for my room. I love Moroccan Style interior decorating, lots of pillows, explosions of color, and some unique accent pieces. Oh yeah! It’s going to look amazing, imo. ๐Ÿ™‚

And then on Saturday, it was time to do the Domestic Goddess Gig, and clean around the house. No big. Or was it? LOL ๐Ÿ˜› I got the laundry started and went to go do the dishes, when and I really have no clue how I did it, I’m just gifted I think in my klutziness. I twisted my ankle. Like really really bad. So I stopped doing the dishes, and hobbled to the fridge, grabbed an ice pack. And then hobbled to the bathroom, grabbed my ibuprofin and then hopped over to the bed, propped my foot up, placed the ice pack on the affected area, and took two ibuprofen. And then I had to text hubs that I wasn’t able to complete all the stuff on my ‘honey do’ list. whooo that was fun, not. ๐Ÿ˜›

And one of the items I had bought at Kohl’s had needed to be returned and exchanged, yeah that didn’t happen on Saturday. I was a brave trooper in pain, owies!! But the swelling went down, and the bruise isn’t all that bad. Sad, I have had enough bruises to know that.

So let’s move on to Sunday. Woke up, and my father in law was there. um…no comment.

Hubs went to work early and placed my crutches, (Yes, I own my own pair of crutches-whee) by the door. He had also placed the item that needed returned with it’s receipt next to them. Um is that a subtle hint or what? LOL So did the shower, and make up thing, got dressed, and left for the store. Minus the stupid crutches. I have a cane, it was fine.

Got to Kohl’s, did the exchange and the customer service person was very nice. I had found another one of the items, and decided to get it as well. Well the sale was buy one, get one half off. I couldn’t find another one, so woot! she gave me the one I wanted at half off. Sweet! And I grabbed some girlie stuff I’ve been needing, makeup. I put off buying makeup because it’s not a necessity. But dangit, I wanted some, so I got some. Foundation, blush and lip liner. Not a lot, just the necessities.

So wooo, that all went well. I drove back home, and was carrying my bags up the stairs, when OW! Somehow, and I really don’t know how, I re-twisted my ankle. OI! Really?

And so I texted hubs again, that I re-twisted it after making it to and from the store with the exchange done. And he was all, really? Really! But it really wasn’t that big of a surprise for him, he’s used to my klutziness by now. First thing he packs on a road trip is the first aid kit. Yeah. IKR?

But I still had stuff I wanted to accomplish in the house, and so being the stubborn person I am, I went and did them. And then I ended up in bed, with another ice pack, two ibuprofin, and a tall glass of water. OWIES! I had overdone it.
So I played on Facebook for a bit, and my bunnies asked for a Joe Calendar, I had had an incident happen earlier in the week, and I wasn’t apt to make one. However, my bunnies are nice, and so yes, I made not one, but two Joe Calendars. I get bored easily, and so I did a Firework variation of the original one. So natch, I had to go and do a Firework variation of the Kavan one I did. LOL ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m silly, I know. But it’s fun and that’s what matters.

What do I want? Caffeine!

When do I want it? NOW! LOL [_]> yes, the smartass is strong in this one today!

so let’s recap the weekend:

May the Fourth be with you; and it was also free comic book day! I ran some errands, picked up an outfit I ordered online for Hubs at Hot Topic. For the upcoming May 18th Star Trek “Into Darkness” movie. I’ll be in uniform at the 16 IMAX in Hamilton with my Klingon brethren of the ship; IKS pongHa’lu’. Sorry no, not a Klingon. I’m just lucky enough to serve on a Klingon ship! ๐Ÿ˜€
I’m also working on putting my uniform together. ๐Ÿ™‚ OH yes, I am a nerd! DUH! LOL snorts

So I went to a new comic book store in Indy, I’d heard good reviews on it, well those reviewers must’ve been dudes! You know, I really really thought the whole gender stereotype about which gender reads comics was dead! OOPS! I was apparently wrong. OMG! I didn’t tag the store in my Facebook feed, because honestly I’m not giving this store any advertising.

Then I went to Keystone at the Crossing, love โค Brighton. I had bought a hair clip um, maybe five years ago. It was my favorite! And it broke. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But they exchanged it for me, no problems. And I got cookies and coffee too! LOL ๐Ÿ˜€
After that it was Castleton Square to pick up hubs cool outfit. And *wave* hi to a friend that was behind the mall. LOL Gotta love social media. Virtual waves. ๐Ÿ™‚ After that it was time to fuel up the car, and me. Starbucks!! Woot! Yes, I know I have an issue with caffeine. If I don’t get it, it’ll be an issue. ๐Ÿ˜›
Drove back home, stopped by Walgreen’s to grab a few items, and say HI to some friends. And then I waited till Hubs could take me to the local comic book store. I can never find it. Course it doesn’t help that he takes a different route every time. The name of the store is Temporal Comics and Sci-Fi, so he teases me, it changes location every time. LOL And no, I’m not directionally challenged. I know that Ft Wayne is up/North, Indy is down/South, NY is East, and LA is West. LOL Drives me bonkers when ppl here in North Central Indiana say they are going up to Indy this weekend. NO no no, you’re going DOWN! oi! LOL ๐Ÿ˜›
Anywho got my free comic, and a rubber bracelet thingie too! And bonus, he’s ordering a special order for me too!! Awesome!
So the organization thingie that Hubs had planned for me to do on Saturday, nope didn’t happen! oops!

Cinco de Maio; And the awesome outfit I got Hubs, didn’t fit. OMG! He’s lost a ton of weight, but the shirt was cut to small… so I ended up going to my ‘local’ Hot Topic in Muncie. And woohoo! It’s like cheers there for moi. I walk in, and they say hi Michelle! sweet!! ๐Ÿ™‚
Oh back up, I got to the mall to early, forgot it was Sunday, and that they didn’t open till Noon. So I was in, walking with the mall walkers, cracking a few of them up. And then found a nice place to sit, read my digital book, and cheer on the walkers. I had done five laps. I was good. LOL ๐Ÿ˜› So back to the story, I was able to return his outfit, and they refunded the money with no issues. And then…I started browsing, yeah, that’s dangerous in Hot Topic, it was buy one, get one half off. So I um…yeah. I’m the proud owner of the new Wonder Woman mini messenger bag, as well as getting a Tardis keychain for one of Hub’s friends. She loves the Eleventh Doctor. So that should make her a happy camper!
After that, my local comic book store was closed-boo! So I went to go get my nails done. I have to have them pretty for the movie. And natch, I needed my hair cut as well. Decided to keep it long, and try something different. Texted my stylist to see if she could fit me in Sunday for a color enhancement- aka- color my grays. Yeah, I’m not going gray gracefully. ๐Ÿ˜›
Then went to Starbucks…what? It was right there, fueled up the car, and drove back to Marion. Where I went to Walgreen’s again, and for the make up girlies, forget Mac’s Paintpots, time to switch to Maybelline’s Tattoo eyeshadows, you can wear alone, or add your shadow over it and watch the color pop! Not to mention that the price difference is very noticeable and this week at Walgreen’s, it’s buy one, get one half off! If you’re a rewards member, and why aren’t you? You earn 2,500 points on each one. So I got 5,000 points on my card, and saved about $20 for my eyeshadow primer. Or if it’s a lazy morning, the color looks good on it’s on. I’m wearing Bronze this morning, and it looks great by itself. ๐Ÿ™‚
My stylist got a hold of me, and while she quit the salon she worked at, she was an independent renting a booth. She wasn’t getting enough time there. And so she decided to barter with me, for the color enhancement. I’ll be doing some flyers for her, and bought her Chinese take out. She colored my hair back to it’s beautiful brunette. And then after all of that, I decided to be socialable on facebook. And my flygirlie friends had me spewing my soda three times with the pix and comments that they made. I needed that belly laugh! Heaven help if we ever get in the same room together. LOL
And no, that organizing thing, dang. Still didn’t happen! lol oops!

And now to today; Revenge of the Sixth! LOL ๐Ÿ˜›
It’s Kavan Smith’s birthday, aka Major Lorne of Stargate Atlantis. And I’ll be posting some pix later on the photoblog to celebrate with my flygirlies!! ๐Ÿ˜€
And now, it’s time to go find some more caff, and look at my schedule for the day, and see what’s what.

OH Hubs just texted me, I have till Friday to do some of that organizing thing he wants me to do. wooooooo! oh yay, be still my heart. ๐Ÿ˜€ We have a contractor coming out to look at the Water Heater, and natch it’s in my closet. Oh well, I can go back through the clothes again and get rid of some more stuff. After losing the weight, a lot doesn’t fit me anymore. So time to get rid of it. But but it’s purple and sparkly….LOL ๐Ÿ˜›

I hope ya’ll have an awesome day! It’s another beautiful day in North Central Indiana, I have blue skies, little cloud cover, and it’s 66 degrees Fahrenheit.
Laters!

Fa lalala laaaaaa it’s Friday!! :)

And what a beautiful Friday morning it is, the sun is shining, the skys are blue, and I’m wearing my sandals. LOL ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve been changing my boots for more appropriate footwear, and oh my goodness… I’ve gotten some blisters. The shoes fit, it’s just I’m not used to wearing them for eight or more hours. So today, it’s my comfy sandal day. I wear these all the time, I’ve traveled in them- from Fort Wayne airport to Chicago and finally to Dallas. I’ve walked miles and miles at various conventions; GenCon and Wizard World Chicago. And at the end of the day, my feet are tired but not OMG sore! Best sandals ever from Sketchers! I’m going to have to find a second pair. I’ll probably bury these when they are no longer wearable. LOL I’m silly.

And a brief app review:
Rdio not to shabby. I’m not to sure about the 14 day trial, when I saw it on Appsgofree I thought it was free Free!! But for the moment, it’s cool. However it’s not really a radio app, it has a search function, and yay! I was able to find a few artists I wanted to listen to. And you’re able to close the app, and go play on other apps. So that’s cool. Also when your auto-lock engages, the music is still playing. We’ll see if I pay for this one.

Anyone know of a good radio app? There’s times I just want to listen to one of my two favorite radio stations, 107.9 out of Indy- plays a lot of music and it’s not all the trendy stuff. Just a nice mix. My other favorite radio station is 104.9 out of Muncie/New Castle, an oldies station. I like listening to their play list too. They’ve started playing more than just oldies, and it’s a good fit.

So that’s the brief app review.

I hope ya’ll have a lovely Friday, and a great weekend!

Happy April

Oi!
so I haven’t updated in a bit, tired, headache’s, and yeah…problems with the dsl at home.

so what’s shakin bacon, well…

my plot bunnies have arrived, I think it’s the fact that the weather is getting nicer. I’ve started a new story, and in an established universe I’ve never played in, so this should be fun.

then on Sunday, we went to the Ft Wayne mall, and I found a store I’ve semi-fallen in love with. Torrid. Nice!!
I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight, and thus my clothes have been falling off me. Belts can only hold up so much, and then it just looks funky! So I bought some new outfits, pants BOGO half off. Tops that were on clearance also BOGO. All in all, with the reward program I signed up for, I saved enough to buy a few more outfits, but I controlled myself. And instead went to a new food place. Well new to us, Red Robin, really good hamburgers. I really liked their patty melt. Plus they have bottomless fries, yeah, we stayed there for a bit. Hubs took that literally and had five to six plates of chips. LOL While at the mall, I went into the Barnes and Nobles and squee! They had the new JR Ward book; Lover at Last and it was 20-30% off!! Sold!! Hubs got me the cutest little plot bunny there too! Truffle from Tokidoki.
So all in all, Sunday was a good day!

Today, I’m having another headache, but I truly believe it’s weather related. Feels like a sinus ache trying to blow up. I’ll be fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

anywho…nothing really to say this morning, except have an Awesome day!
